I'm supposed to answer the question as if I were a traditional Marxist? Because if you look at the regularity of occurrence of financial crises over the past 1200 years (and especially since the 80s) and at how slow the recent recoveries are, it seems like capitalism is indeed on a road towards collapse by way of feverish acceleration (forgive the landian terminology, Land is a not-even-closeted Marxist when it comes to historical analysis anyway).

Just look at this whole rona thing: wide and fast spread of a disease that, in older, less overconnected times, would have been more easily contained or would have killed much less people. Because of the constant circulation of supplies, many countries also found themselves without the adequate equipment to deal with the virus at the time their borders closed, thus worsening the health crisis.
Reaction against said crisis involves a drastic, violent reduction of economic activity, and since because of the world capitalist economy, all countries are connected, everyone is affected by both crises (viral and economic), and since in our capitalist society can only compute things in market-commercial terms (and thus had to translate all activities into global market activities) it means all areas of life will be damaged by the economic crisis.

This, in turn, creates defiance and animosity between countries and, within countries, between various social and professional classes, leading to unrest, and thus protests, and thus more contamination, while also weakening states and making international cooperation harder. Trust in institutions, already damaged by their increasingly visible allegiance to financial powers, is now coming undone.

So what's next? One of the worst economic recession in a hundred years, a new order of things where heightened paranoia is the norm, and the prospect of similar viruses, similar crises regularly appearing in the coming decades. Basically post-9/11 : the return, only more global and less escapable. The bottom line at country level is, of course, a new uncontested surge in state authoritarianism. Needless to mention none of that is incidental or merely unlucky, it is all a very natural development of the joint intrusion of central state and global economy in everyone's lives.

Ultimately, on the long run, we're heading either to softened stalinism in every country of the Western World, or to collapsing states and the effective abolishment of private property under anarchistic hordes, if not both. I give capitalism about 30-50 years at this rate (being generous), past that, if it hasn't disappeared it will be all but unrecognizable.
