you should really get a bit interested about modern psychiatry and psychology, because almost everything of what he brought up was actually proven wrong, or not based on anything at best. i don't have any author to cite because psychology is just a secondary interest for me, and that i'm not at all qualified about it. but i've heard about the Freudian bogusness in several informed podcasts (not in English), and there's been countless critics about the Freudian fundamentals, starting with Deleuze & Guattari, or Devereux for instance (these critics probably not being entirely relevant anymore on a scientific scale, but that's not exactly the point).

Trully, Freud is fucked. You can roughly take some of his ideas and demonstrate that he gave the denial bullshit such a key role only because he had to find a way to make his own patients shut up about him being wrong.

Psychoanalysis is very much alive to this day. Deleuze's work on psychoanalysis dogma was more of a critique than a complete rejection. As for freudian concepts, many authors revisited what Freud said in ordrer to adapt his concepts to what we know now. Saying that Freud was proven wrong and fucked is just a blatant simplification of what actual modern metapsychology is about.
