Do these people ever grow up?
Idk if it's because I've gotten older or what but it's really hard for me to find a fiction book I like. Kinda the same with movies and tv, I like documentaries but can't stand anything else unless it's to deconstruct the propaganda. Same with music

Is that why everyone goes to see the new Avengers movies every few months? To analyze the propaganda?

Fiction's really broad. If you're unable to enjoy any fiction I think that's a sign that there's something wrong with you. The fact that the Avengers is the first thing you think of supports this.

>>15798565
not him but I agree, there's fiction out there that's thought provoking, and although I do despise the blatant shameless propaganda push on media, if the first book that comes to mind when you think fiction is Harry Potter or Divergent you probably need to read more. Try Kafka, Nabokov, Hemingway... heck even King or Lovecraft if you must.

You're probably looking in the wrong places. There is enough classical persian poetry to keep you reading for decades, not counting the time it takes to learn the language. That's one example, the same applies several times over to Chinese literature, Hindu literature, Turkish literature, and each of the 25 past centuries of Western literature. Try a few obscure or ancient works and see what you like, then focus on it.

Reading could probably provide some serotonine also, but that's not all of it. Enlightenment might mean painful realization and better honesty towards yourself. It's not entirely hedonistic, but it's individual centered, in a sense.
