You were raised Christian, indoctrinated long before you had any critical faculties, questioned it for a while when you started learning shit and were feeling rebellious, and then snapped back to your comforting fairy tale because you can't break your early brainwashing. Meanwhile you rationalized it all to make yourself seem smarter than ever. Now you'll act Christian all your life, even smugly, and raise your kids the same way, even if you have no internal convictions left. Congratulations: you're every fucking theist alive, and nobody cares about your delusions.

Are you criticizing someone for experiencing personal development due to reading? What's the point of reading if it doesn't change you at all? He went from having a probably immature view of theism to having a more complex view because he read. He put it in a simple way, and he might be overreacting to his reading but it's not conclusive from the post that that's the case.

Before I read I looked at the question of whether or not there was a God and whether or not there was anything supernatural from a very narrow perspective that was merely a product of my upbringing. Reading classic literature gave me a more nuanced view of the question and introduced me to a wealth of discussion and thought that I assumed did not exist. It didn't convert me or anything but I learned from it, and that's all this guy is saying. He's questioning his views more closely because he's reading. Reading without learning and changing as a person means you're either reading pulp or you're bad at reading and aren't introspective.

I only found Jesus in my 30s. I read Corinthians before anything else in the Bible, and was totally shocked how much sense it made, and how much it agreed with my personal philosophy. Kept on reading more, couldn't believe that it was describing the world around me. Came to the conclusion that every word of it is true. Been studying the Bible ever since. It speaks of that which was, is and is still to come. World events make sense now. All those banksters, elites, secret societies, etc. just do the direct opposite of it and display it in plain sight, pic rel. And just like the book says, follow Christ and get persecuted for it, for wishing others well, for being kind and sincere instead of vile and judgmental.

Repentance, accepting God's undeserved grace, that you may yet be saved by the blood shed by Jesus on that cross, is the most powerful, life changing thing anyone can ever experience. Nothing quite like being born again.

1 Corinthians 2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Have you read both the Bible and the Quran? Or even looked at them? They are of a completely different nature. The Bible is like a collection of first-hand accounts and stories and legends written by various people from ancient times about different things. The Quran is like a Dungeons & Dragons lore fanfic. mormonism has the strongest claims to revealed wisdom of any movement in the past couple hundred years
it preaches a message of genuine love, both in trying to proselytize and in their work of baptizing the dead to save forgotten souls
not to mention the love the father wants to give people, you aren't withheld salvation after death just because of your ignorance in life, there is no coercion with your soul the way most other christians preach
it doesn't deal with logical impossibilities, such as omnipotence/omniscience or ex nihilo creation

I've always been of the opinion that I, or someone that thinks enough like me, perceives the world similar to how I do
Could easily end up being a heavily religious person if I was raised in that custom, and only exposed to that custom

But in modern world, growing up and being exposed to more and more information
I can't imagine how I could stay religious
I don't mean specifically atheist dogma, or fancy big bang science, etc.
But the tiniest idea of there being other religions than my own, that believe themselves to be true, not allowing for both
Given time, I think this would make anyone like me an atheist
More books and learning would only hasten that process

So from my mindset, I honestly can't believe how books -human words, could convert someone that claimed to be in the atheist camp to religion
It a one-way trip, as I see it

Interesting thoughts OP! I'm just left with one question: Suppose for a minute there's a group traveling about your area, led by a charismatic speaker who claims the world is ending soon. He promises he alone can save you, but only if you sell your belongings, devote the rest of your life to him, and cut off family members who try to stop you.

He may also want to change your name, assign you a new identity, advises you to leave your home/job if necessary to follow him, and says that if you don’t love him more than your own family then you’re not worthy of him. His followers wrote a book about him in which he performs many miraculous feats, but no contemporaneous outside source corroborates their claims. What sort of group is that?

No, that's basically gatekeeping. Saying somebody does not possess all the bonafides which qualify them to say they belong to this group or that group. What I'm pointing out is a shibboleth, a word or turn of a phrase unique to a specific group such that you can identify them by their use of it even when they conceal their identity. In this case, it's only Christians/Muslims/Mormons/JWs/etc who characterize atheists as presuming to know for certain that no gods exist.

The best argument for the existence of God is a circular one. The only dumb positions on God's existence are absolutist ones in both directions. Atheism is stupid because it precludes the existence of things we cannot currently prove, which is antithetical to the scientific basis they pretend to operate under. What is science, after all, without something to discover? The mindset of atheism extended implies a state of science where there cannot be any more discoveries and everything is settled, which is just dumb. On the other side of the coin you have the scripturists, for whom the existence of God is not only proven by a bunch of dusty tomes written literal millennia ago, but that he appears precisely as depicted. My own personal opinion is that the existence of some kind of God is likely, but that the entire retarded debate gets bogged down in abstractions of the concept. If God created all and knows all, I must be a subset of him, and that makes me part of him. If there is no distinction between myself and God, then there must be no distinction between God and anyone or anything at all, which means God is everything within the four dimensions we can objectively observe. Since he also created time, he must be something that exists outside of it. If he takes a conscious form rather than just being an abstraction from, well, "everything," then he's some kind of entity further removed from us than we are from amoebas.

You do know you can be open to the idea of a god without being religious right? there is no reason to be christian just cause you think god might exist. There is no reason to believe in the god of any religion, most likely the real god has nothing to do with them.

Being agnostic makes the most sense, we DO NOT KNOW if there is a god or not and if there is there's no reason to think it's the Christian god.

These semantics are so fucking dumb!
At some point the word 'atheist' was conflated to include one who claims perfect knowledge of all things to rule out the possibility of some things.
So by those standards, obviously no rational human can be an "atheist", good job!

Perhaps. For me God is the opposite objectivity to our innate human subjectivity. The representation of our pure abstract mind which is supposedly always reasonable and never distrubed by our material and biological implications. That's how i think is the fundamental idea of every culture that creates a God or gods for themselves. So in a way, the A.l could represent this perfectness, but i think it would have to be completely independet of human perception. I don't know if that is possible.
