Just went to a Barnes and Noble for the first time in forever.
While sitting in the parking lot I browsed the store to see if I get a curbside pickup of The Slynx.
None in stock at this store, but I could buy one online. Whatever.
>go inside
>go to the fiction section
only two aisles of fiction, most of it is high-school tier stuff we've all read
a shelf full of nothing but Things Fall Apart
five aisles of romance
>tables stacked with the latest pop-lit abortions
>literally half the store is a children's section
picture books
picture books
comic books
magazines
and a tiny cafe in the corner
oh can't forget the wall of Criterion blu-rays for 60 bucks a pop.

is this what bookstores are now?
they seem to sell everything but literature

No wonder they're all going out of business. Good riddance.

sorry for bothering you.

That stuff is what sells and they're a business that needs to stay open.

This. It's the reason the new age/parapsychology section is bigger than the poetry and philosophy sections combined. You may not like it but that's capitalism, you leftycuck.

If you go to independent bookstores instead of this massive chains of cucks, you might find the environment you are looking. I have great experiences going to smaller bookshops and talking with the people who work there about literature and seeing that they really know what they are talking about and selling.

Basically, fuck big companies. They are shallow as fuck.

So any and all females within a Barnes and Noble are not of a true literary soul?

Only literary soul is Fran from Scarface. She isn't so bad. We shouldn't be mean. xoxoxoxo

Have you even read Freud? Much of his work was scientifically rigorous for his time.

Every employee I've ever talked to at local, independent bookstores I've been to have been hipster faggots. So, I don't even bother talking to them at this stage.

>"We can order it for you."
Oh yes, please. Order the book so I can wait a week and then come back here to pick the book up from a store, instead of just having it delivered right to my house, so I don't have to drive miles to a bookstore that doesn't have any classic books because all the shelf space is filled with politically correct "marginalized voices" horse shit and manga. I love wasting time driving places multiple times to buy things. Can I give you my cell phone number too so you can call me and let me know when the book arrives? I love giving out my personal data to incompetent corporations.

No, I'm not leaving. Why don't you make an actual argument about how picture books cannot be high-quality literature? I actually have one published weird fiction story, but I think picture books can be on equal level in terms of sophistication and depth.

It's a little hit or miss but honestly B&N usually has a good selection of history, some random really quality philosophy (they lack breadth but will for no reason at all have a few obscure works), and generally an ok fiction section. They used to have a whole essay section but idk if that's still around. However, used bookstores and local independent bookstores are still the best, notwithstanding the enormous leftist bias of most independent stores.
