I know this is a bait thread but why do people venerate Jesus as a symbol of suffering when the torture the people that came after him felt was much worse. Again I understand he was a Prophet and his pain wasn't physical but shouldn't he have been tortured more, just to drive the point home?

Christ bore the totality of the sins of humanity, past, present, and future. The suffering of the flesh that the saints suffered for His sake is nothing in comparison to His Suffering for our sake. It was a privilege to be martyred because of Him. God's Incarnation in Jesus Christ was the ultimate act of humility, love, and suffering.

Why wouldn't he be? The absolute in Vedanta is impersonal. This is like a materialist suddenly believing in demons because the idea that bad people might also be constructed from matter is unnerving for him.
If it makes you feel any better the person in the scenario you described will suffer proportionally to the karma of his actions.

Maybe it sounds meaningless because you don't know what you are talking about, in Advaita Brahman is transcendent to the universe of phenomena. Tables, rocks, air etc are not Brahman

There is a reason why people move on to buddhism once they are done with reform judaism: it's completely compatible with materialist nihilism. In both, one's existence is a bleak suffering-filled existence experienced through a consciousness that is produced by a web of transient factors, which themselves have no inherent reality or meaning.

Not that Ken Wheeler cares, small souled bugman that he is and all, but the actual answer to this is that he was kept in his father's palace against his will. The Buddha's pre-renunciate life is essentially just a series of him trying to leave and his father loading him down with pleasures to keep him from leaving. He wasn't even allowed to impregnate his own wife for years to keep him from leaving (in India at the time, and to this day, it was a gross shirking of duty to take up a spiritual life before reproducing). He had to escape in the night from the palace because the guards were told to keep him from leaving.

> still dont get how he can hold that view and cling to advaita vedanta, because advaita vedanta is explicitly non-dual
Advaita Vedanta includes a form of mind-body dualism insofar as they say that the mind and thought inhere in the subtle body which exists on the plane of subtle manifestation and which is not a physical object but which is a sort of non-physical inference for controlling the physical body; resulting in a duality of the physical body vs the formless non-physical mind although metaphysically this still gives way to ontological non-dualism as the subtle body and physical bodies etc are ultimately just unreal superimpositions in non-dual consciousness which observes the aforesaid superimpositions while remaining unaffected by them
