I find they are like 75% page filler crap so you only need to read the summary or dot points for each chapter. Regarding the quality of the content depend on the subject, usually they are a good basic introduction to most subjects, sometimes arcane like betting on horse racing, etc.

Had to get the philosophy one for school, never read it. Tried recently and the actual quality of print is fucking horrible, thin pages, half finished sentences vanishing on to the next page, the 'inline' or whatever you call it sinking into the crevasse in the middle of the book. Definitely don't buy one, you can get everything in these books on the most rudimentary internet search anyway.
