Is this chart a good starting point? I want a solid base before starting law school

>> No.15223859

literally useless
just be able to read for 6-8 hours a day 6 days a weeks and you are ready for law school

>> No.15223892

This list is for someone who wants to study political theory or political philosophy. If you are going to study law in American, pretty much everything after Leo Strauss and Rawls is useless.

I'm not in North America, anon.

Find out what the law school studies. The chart is probably overkill, though you may like that.

either way. this list is not for Law School. It's for law students that wished they were not in law school. Don't fall for the law school meme if you think this reading list is interesting. Go study Political Philosophy/Science.

Fica mais fácil. As you perhaps already know, we in Brazil follow the civil law, which is very different than the common law used in US and UK. Their "bibliography" doesn't cater too much to our concept of law. Since you haven't even entered college, I don't know (and probably you too don't know ) which area you are more interested in, but stick to the "propedeutics" and in a philosophical base you should be fine.
Kant and Hegel are essential, at least on a surface level (Kant even more).
Take an introductory work; Ferraz Jr has an Introduction that is pretty good but confusing at times; take a more classic one (Reale) if you are having trouble.
If you feel confident, try Larenz (metodologia da ciência do Direito) and Wieacker (História do Direito Privado).
Bonavides on Political Science and Constitutional are a good call.
The chart you OP'd have some good recs, but you will find it pretty useless in Law in general and get frustrated.
Norberto Bobbio is also a good one on Political Science, more akin to what you will read about in college.

Just finished law school in Australia.
My uni is known for being more focused on theory/jurisprudence but the course was almost entirely practical and focused on preparing you for a career as a lawyer. Some universities don't study jurisprudence at all.
I ended up doing maybe 3-4 theory/jurisprudence subjects, only 1 of which was compulsory.
If you really want to brush up, focus on Hart, Dworkin, Raz, and maybe look into some ancient stuff and some other natural law philosophers

Law school nowadays has barely any theory and is all practical

I didn't, but the content of our compulsory theory subject depended largely on which lecturer you had

Your're fifty years old and don't have kids. Why does utopian idealism mean so much to you? Are you just stupid?

You would get more use out of reading modern court proceedings and law books than 99% of those books but Plato is essential.

>> No.15224717

Interesting. The anglo-common law curriculum is very different from the rest of Europe and LA.
How was the practic part? You learned court procedure, leading cases and stuff?

>> No.15224776

>>15224663
Muito obrigado. I really don't which area I'm more interested, damn, I don't even know all areas I will encounter during the course, but I guess I have more interest in the doctrinal and philosophical area than individual laws and all the mechanical work. Literature is my second option right now, I really have this desire to write and read text, specially on theoretic subjects.

I'm an irish law student. It may be different for civil law jurisdictions but this level of jurisprudential reading is nearly useless. Just read cases and use anki.
