I converted to Islam, then a few years later I read guenon and joined a sufi order. Then a few years later I left Islam because the things he says still don't eliminate all the mental gymnastics you need to do in order to believe in Islam. I don't believe all paths lead to God or any of that. Once you have a deep knowledge of a tradition, believing this kind of modernist theory becomes less tenable

I toy with the theory of there indeed being something like a Jungian collective unconsciousness (which you could also compare with Plato’s realm of the forms/archetypes), thought transference, etc. So different religions build up and/or draw from reservoirs of images, archetypes, visions, symbolism, etc. (creating what some have called ‘egregores’, maybe). Some devoted mystics then tap into this realm by sheer force of self-discipline and devotion. This is why Sufi saints get Sufi visions, Christian saints get Christian visions, Tibetan Buddhist Vajrayana meditators get Vajrayana visions, etc. If I get enough funding, I may test this in a lab. not really

I bet you haven't progressed to reading the puranic literature, Ramayana or the western equivalent epics.
I must suggest this. People praise Upanishads or Buddhist Tripitaka et c, but in my 25 years in this, going through all the stuff you did, it's Puranas that give you the real deal. Reading itself is a process which changes you, cultivates you.
Reading these feels sometimes like just wasting your time on crazy ancient myths, but the truth is that the crazy ancient myths carry truths that the technical philosophical sutras are just nibbling around the edges of.
Especially considering an average purana is around 2k pages if there's no commentary with it.
It is deep immersion. It colors your subconscious processes and dreams. That is massively more effective than cogitation.

Here's a reasonably good translation of Devi-Bhagavata Purana, not as good as a Debroy trans but at least it exists:

There's a good Vishnu Purana on there too.

Debroy is just good at english and does good footnotes. Try out that Srimad Devi-Bhagavatam to see what I mean. That one is very pajeet-speak.
Puranas are collections of history, legend, philosophy. They're dated so late because that's when they were put to writing. Puranas are also Vedic, they are not Tantric.
They are famously layered in Symbolism.
That's just it, though, even if you accept a Christian Era dating, they are still great, older isn't always better.
Ramayana is a truly ancient epic, and is very good, but doesn't hold a candle to Markandeya or Bhagavata Purana.
