The man hated the government.

>Christianity recognizes the State, because Christianity recognizes death and the most hideous facts of existence.

>There are certain sayings which for the last 100 years or so have not been considered respectable, because they were religious...One of those statements is this: "The Family comes first; it comes before the State; its authority and necessity are anterior to those of the State."

>The frightful punishment of mere sex emancipation is not anarchy but bureaucracy....The total control of human life will pass to the State; and it will be a very Totalitarian State.

etc.

He was something of a Christian tout court. In that sense, he was catholic, in the universal meaning of the term.

Be sure to read Ellul’s book on propaganda as well, but really all of his stuff is great. I think he’s best after going through some Uncle Ted first, who basically openly admits that he is very much in debt to him and wrote ISAIF as essentially a layman’s version of The Technological Society. ISAIF was pretty much Ellul-lite in my mind, and it was nice to have a basic familiarity with the ideas to be found in Ellul’s work from Ted when going through what is definitely a denser, thicker and more complex work.

Chesterton supported private ownership and he believed that it was essential to a healthy economy. Most of the theories of socialism and anarchism reject private ownership.
He believed that that hierarchical system was the ideal order. Anarchists tend to reject hierarchies in favor of a democratic or flat system of government.
He emphasized the need for a moral code in our economy. The anarchist view is not without moral principles, but tends to reject morality imposed by institutions such as religions. Chesterton believed that religious values were important to society. He believed that individuals needed to develop moral discipline, that is more robust than what anarchism advocates.
Most political systems are motivated by the desire for liberty or equality. Chesterton believed that while both motivations are admirable, neither should be the foundation of the economy: liberty and equality represent values that are externalized and separated, when they should be internalized and synthesized.

not all anarchism has to be socialist or anti-religion.

If a Japanese person created shinto-anarchism then they could still be an anarchist even if it's not some russian marxist's definition of anarchism
