What is the Twin Peaks of /lit/erature?

>> No.15144960

Twin Peaks is pretty straightforwardly a horror narrative.

So: read horror.

Just finished the first season of twin peaks should I watch the next season.I liked it but I want to just read at the moment and I can't do both reading and watching. Probs autism but I don't care. So is season two worth it over reading?

The nightingale
It said to me
There is a love
Meant for me
The nightingale
It flew to me
And told me
That it found my love

He said to me
I'll meet you
Our hearts will fly
With the nightingale

The nightingale
He told me
One day
You will be with me
The nightingale
Said he knew
That your love
Would find my love one day

My heart flies
With the nightingale
All through the night
All across the world

I long to see you
To touch you
To love you
Forever more

That’s so weird, I was showing my GF this show last night and had the urge to make this exact thread.

I’ve also been looking for a book (fiction or non-fiction) that encapsulates the tone of horror with a deception of innocent aesthetics.

When Leland dies, and Coop recites the Tibetan Book of The Dead, I felt the need to read a story with that tone.

For those who watched The Return, what did you think of it?

Personally, despite it being a completely bloated mess of ideas– I fucking loved it. Felt like a film in a serialised novel form rather than an episodic television show (likely because it was filmed that way). The fact that something like Episode 8 was even a thing is almost inconceivable, we are probably never going to get anything like it on television again.

Also, even though so many people were frustrated by it, the Dougie stuff was arguably the closest in tone to the original series, Lynch was giving us exactly what we wanted with that plotline and the nostalgiafags didn't even realise it

They only way to really experience twin peaks is to watch the first 2 seasons and the film over and over again for years untill you are really comfortable with the characters, then go watch the return. So much of what goes on in that season is about subverting decades of expectations, breaking the fourth wall, and misdirection.

You mean where the kid shoots the gun through the car window? Hell yeah. That scene was a perfect distillation of both lynch's style and the thematic concerns of The Return in general. And all of that in what is essentially an entirely disconnected plot point that is never referred to again.

People keep saying this show is /lit/, but I'm wary as fuck of all television. Literally the only "muh golden age of tv" thing I liked was the first season of True Detective. True Detective is literally a third-rate twin peaks. It gets all of its good ideas from there, the only thing it doesn't tap into is the soap opera elements. The trouble is all of the darkness and mystery is very surface level in True Detective, whereas in Twin Peaks, the darkness is buried under the facade of a quaint, wholesome and unassuming town, which makes the dark that much more menacing in contrast. Unlike True Detective, it also has soul.

You're in luck, the Cooper-Truman bromance is one for the ages. Cooper is the complete opposite of Rust but in the best kind of way. Just be aware that after a certain point in the second season (you'll know when), things will get very, very shit, but keep pushing through because the finale, film and 3rd season are all fantastic.

Dropping in from /tv/ because I got a free Audible gift and was looking for something I haven't read yet to listen to. Twin Peaks is if you have two different authors telling the same story on two different planets. One is building some huge backstory about aliens and portals to other worlds and the other said let me write a soap opera about that but with random shit going on that somehow manages to make sense.
