This is a thread for discussing how a gifted polymath arose to retroactively refute nearly all of western thought and elucidate the fundamental problems of our times, and the works of adjacent thinkers. Like a lighthouse beacon, René Guénon's (pbuh) writings shine as a veritable fountain of truth and wisdom in these dark times.

Why did he go for Sufism instead of Irfan?

That's a good question, I don't know. He was initiated into the Sunni Shadhili Tariq by Ivan Aguéli sometime in the 1910's, some years before he adopted the outward practices of Islam, so it may have been because his first personal contact with Islamic teachings happened to be Sunni.

I've haven't read all of him, but in one of his books or essays he write about how if the chain of initation is broken there can be very special circumstances that allow for it to continue, I don't know if he gives this example but let's say for example a Sufi master appearing in someone's dream. I again have not read this exact essay of his but as far as I understand, from what I've seen of other people talking about it he meant that this phenomena could prevent an end to an already existent tradition and not that we could use it to revive Egyptian teachings or Neoplatonism after they have both been dead for over a thousand years.
