>Q25:What is your favorite work of fiction?

>I wish I had more time to read fiction, but in college I made the conscious choice to avoid doing so. We only can read so many books before we die, and so if you are looking to know the truth you are going to have to prioritize what is real over what is fake: and fiction, by definition isn't real. I won't go so far as to say you have a moral responsibility to read nonfiction over fiction, although Eliezer Yudkosky made a pretty strong case for that [...]The spread of the truth seems to increase the total amount of wellbeing in the world, while the same isn't true for pretty stories. There may be some problems with his argument: there are probably some people who find greater pleasure from reading fiction than nonfiction, and for those people reading fiction probably is one of the peaks on the moral landscape. But I unfortunately don't share that pleasure, so I can't say that I have read much fiction, and I think most people are better off not doing so.
>I would reccommend all my listeners to try to open their mind to reading brilliantly written literary nonfiction instead: Derik Parfit's "Reasons and Persons" comes to mind.

This demonstrates that the people who hate the idea of reading fiction are soulless bugmen. You should read lots of non-fiction but no appreciation of fiction demonstrates inhumanity.

I didn’t need any more proof that Sam Harris is a retard, but I sure got it.

Are the people who don't believe in reading fiction literally constantly learning and self-improving? Or do they do anything just for pleasure? Sounds to me like they just don't really enjoy reading.

Denying an entire field of writing is absurd. Stories, themes, meaning, shared experience, etc. are all found through fiction. Fiction in movies, TV, plays, novels, short stories, etc are all radically important in shaping how we perceive the world and other people. Through the deception of fictionalized experiences we are able to share a hidden truth about ourselves.

When I first saw that pic of Sammy boy I thought he was wearing one of those jerseys that professional gamers wear (because of that orange ribbon in the bottom left corner,) but then it turned out he wasn't wearing one.
Now I wish he was though. What kind of competitive video game would Sammy play?

nigga shut your gay ass up. fag harris' conclusion is that truth is derived from reading nonfiction only and that couldnt be farthest from reality. he might be talking about YA and the like, which may have some validity, but serious, good fiction presents truth in a different light that bugmen like you and him couldnt possibly fathom. fag harris (who will never debate with someone worthwhile) ust wants you to buy his books and dont forget that today he has a 20% off discount for his app, go get it

The retardation of soulless bugmen npcs
The divine consciousness manifests itself through us in creation .
If it wasnt important there would be no divine impulse for creation of fiction for in the eyes of god everything is equal .
Harris is a symptom of classic self importance ego retardation in pursuit of truth that he completely misses it.
