Why don't men consume literature anymore?

80% of book buyers are women
No argument, don't ask for source.

Men are basically the only ones consuming real literature, women consume the book equivalent to "blockbuster" movies

This. Since good literature has died roughly 80 years ago, most of it is copyright free and can be downloaded for free.
Also, the easier the book, the more books you buy.

What people don't realize is that actual literature has NEVER been popular relative to the size of society. You think that only women read today, but that's not true. I actually think the proportion of men reading has increased over time, the only reason why women appear to read more is because they read popular garbage. In terms of actual literature, I would not be surprised if the proportion of men who read has gone up over time. Am i making sense

Don’t guys read self-help trash and women read romantic/cringe trash?
We’re all full of shit here, desu.

>80% women
Pareto's principle would suggest that it's the other 20 that counts.

Men are less aware that consumer items are signifiers of identity, and that it's only strong identities that are rewarded with social validation, not to mention: fun, invites, friends, girlfriends, unposted job openings... etc etc

Me, nigga. I’m actually glad because women can’t write, so if only 20% of book readers are men, I don’t have as many people to compete with.

Yes, I know you made up the statistic.

Not really bait. Yes it's a dumb generalisation. I'm on /lit/, why not fit in? But do you reckon more men spend leisure time reading than watch capeshit? Seems doubtful to me.

Cope. I don't know a single man who reads regularly.
Women may prefer YA shite, but they outread men with classic lit as well.

you don't have much experience with females, do you? women DO NOT pay rent. they have much more spending money than us males. while we save for a down payment on a house, or for investments, women lavishly spend their money on eating out, romantic novels, and other garbage habits that makes them feel better about their smaller brains.

>80% of book buyers are women
