Trump is an interesting case indeed. The establishment tells on itself in its vociferous attempts to dissociate with him, despite him personifying the callous indifference and aloofness of the ruling class to the needs of common folk. Needs which in the case of a viral outbreak, jeopardize the health of the ruling class itself and its interests. Viruses don't discriminate between rich and poor. The inability of the capitalist system to mobilize a coordinated, top-down response to the crisis has harmed the system itself. This is most clearly emblematic in the for profit healthcare system of the US which puts it at particular risk.

Nothing makes this "crisis" special, and it is far less of a crisis that other events.
Labeling it a crisis represents a fundamental misunderstanding of how the system works.

Yes but there are fundamental limitations on the immune system for novel viruses. No amount of advanced supportive care can change that. Rich old people will die of it nearly as much as poor old people.

>Some people said the same thing
There is a fundamental difference here. It is that Global supply chains are disrupted. This is special. Recent earning reports have said as much across the corporate sector. There can't be any profit if the basis for it, production, is halted or severely delayed.
It remains to be seen how long this disruption will last, or if the outbreak will continue to exponentiate. The trend has been worsening globally unabated, and the (claimed) improvement in China might not be generalizable to other states given its drastic mitigation efforts. Cascade effects (like the huge drop in oil prices) could lead to others, leading to a systematic untangling of the economy interconnected supporting strands.

because capitalism cannot translate individual rationality into collective rationality, what you're proposing could be a way out but is unattainable in a system that is axiomatically founded upon decentralized decision making in a society composed of atomized invidual agents. in order to implement your plan you'd have to ensure coordination of actions of all capitalists in the world and therefore replace individual decision making with collective planning that is socialism. furthermore your plan is not incentive compatible without introducing a third party that is the state to command the actions of all individuals. this is because when everyone is buying so that the prices surge in the near future every single capitalist has the incentive to break out from the established plan and sell thereby accumulating the speculation premium. notice that this is precisely why Lenin and neo-Marxists point out to monopolization as a tendency of late capitalism - monopolization decreases the number of economic agents and therefore makes large scale planning more attainable and provides a counter tendency to the falling rate of profit

Here's an actually informed post faggots!!

The selloff happening right now isn't a correction yet, more a panic sell. However, the economic data from the effects of the Coronavirus is a time bomb and is starting to go off, and that's when the real correction will come and this bubbly bull market will come tumbling down. The Fed is set to meet on March 17-18 and will most likely announce significant rate cuts, the fact that they did an emergency rate cut already should spook you. You can't shut down 17% of the world economy where a significant part of the global supply chain is based and not expect a massive recession unless the problem is fixed soon, we are already beyond that point. The market will probably seriously crash by late March but I don't think it will bottom out until summer. The hardest hit sectors atm are travel, tourism and service (not to mention commodities like oil, obviously) but the effects will become much more tangible soon. Hyundai and Nissan already can't make cars because they can't get the parts from China, and manufacturers from around the world are going to be reaching the end of their stocks in the next couple months without the possibility of ordering more. Target and Walmart are going to have trouble stocking the shelves by April and May. The reason the media and elites aren't talking about this (I mean you can find plenty of analysts spelling this out going back to late January, they are just being muted) is because they're either too stupid or want us to be complacent enough so they can cash out with options betting against the market while Joe Shmoe with his 401k gets fucked. This could be a lot worse than 08 anons, particularly if the US and other western countries start doing their own quarantines. Most small businesses in China are already running out of cash and food supply is becoming a big issue there, why would here be any different if most shipping and travel gets shut down. If this doesn't put the nail in the coffin of globalization I don't know what will, this is basically all a massive lesson in how the people at the helm are worse than clowns.

History has been full of much worse pandemics. Also I don't know why you'd think national autarky could deal better with these sorts of issues. If you had to shut everything down and not have access to any foreign markets you'd be fucked quicker and harder.

I'm talking about the vulnerability of global supply chains, and for the record I don't support autarky either. And it's been worse in history isn't an argument, and to be frank how bad the disease is doesn't matter from a practical standpoint because markets and governments aren't rational and have already marked it as a massive threat enough to shut down all economic activity. You shouldn't be concerned about the health effects unless you're old or immunodeficient but we will all get fucked by the economic aspect.

Holy shit atheist materialists btfo.
Imagine caring about the world. Imagine having to depend on retardation like "stock markets" and "health". Imagine running and screeching to the magical all-powerful doctors to keep you from being btfo by a virus. Imagine them not being able to do anything about it and callously tossing your corona-riddled corpse into the emergency ovens as FEMA enacts forced quarantines nationwide. Imagine Rick&Morty quotes being insufficient to cope with the situation. Imagine the weed not culling the cognitive activity like it used to when you were a comfortable little midwit hedonist who always watched the latest Steven Pinker TEDx talks. Imagine dying after watching the edifice of technocratic western liberal democracy crumble before we were even able to legalize pedophilia and let polygendered drag queens openly molest toddlers on the steps of the Lincoln memorial lmao.
Has there EVER been a species more pathetic than the modern materialist? I mean seriously, look at how fragile their whole little house of cards was. Now all of the soft-assed "humanitarians" are going to be gouging their neighbor's eyes out over a half-used toilet paper roll as martial law is declared and all governments go chink-mode on their citizens. LMAO the atheists actually thought it was all going to end in rainbows, unicorns, dandelions, and a ring of immigrants holding hands wearing Amazon VR goggles and singing praises to the latest PornHub top trending camwhores.

As long as there is a single country who is incompetent and their people travell this thing won't die away. It doesn't matter if Europe is more competent than America but less than Korea because unless we will impose 14 day quarantine on all travellers this thing will be a self perpetuating cycle.

Imagine being this naive. A friend of mine’s father just passed away in the hospital in China from a non corona virus condition and she is being forced to lie and say he died at home in the death certificate because the hospital can’t admit to any more deaths because of pressure from on top. China’s political culture is based all around saving face, which encourages massive lying and avoiding accountability. Their attitude towards government is that it’s absolutely responsible for what happens, which is what caused the whole pandemic to get out of hand in the first place, the Hubei authorities didn’t want to admit to Beijing that it was so bad because their heads are on the line. A very central concept in Chinese political culture is the Mandate of Heaven, and the CCP is extremely afraid of losing this (yes they are more culturally Chinese than they are communist) because they know if their people realize the scale of how bad this is their heads will roll. The Chinese government is extremely afraid of losing face globally and domestically for these reasons. But go ahead be a dimwit and just regurgitate the Chinese government line.

What will you do when your property's gone?
When the finger on the triggers your one and only son?
When the money in your pocket cannot buy even bread?
The city has crumbled, the people have been bled
The machine has grown to crush the world, the walls are getting higher.
The youth will be the first to throw themselves upon the pyre.
The reason for living seems so fruitless in the aftermath
When we've finally walked to the end of the path.
The time is near at hand, a fact you must accept.
Time stands still for no man not even for the rich.
So sorry we're so humourless, it's just the way we are.
You laugh but I don't get the joke, we walk but don't get far.
Maybe there is hope in the dawning of the day.
When no rules define survival, when the earth starts to decay.
It's you who face the holocaust. It's you who cast the vote.
The sad part of your future is it lacks an antidote.

Why do you guys care about the markets? They mean nothing for you. This is all just numbers pushed around on a screen to make or break the executives at large corporations. It has almost no direct effect on day to life. The only reason it has an indirect effect is because everyone works for corporations and they’re so greedy that they’ll lay everyone off before losing their profit. Just take the attitude of “fuck them” and fuck the socioeconomic view of life. This is why everything is so shitty. Because people invest their concern into this shit and give them power.

More centralized, sure, but firms still trade through the price mechanism. That being said, the current degree of centralization isn't sustainable without a fair degree of intervention, which itself has increased the severity of malinvestment. Remember that bounce last week when the fed cut rates? That didn't last very long, and the recoil was pretty severe.

Retirement savings, sure but people are acting like the sky is falling. All of these preventative measures you see and government response is to preserve the wealth of corporate execs and bankers. The fed admitted this last week. They’ll never talk about a Main Street bail out. They’ll inject liquidity and puff up stocks and bail out investment banks.

There’s obvious long-term ramifications but that’s not what we’re talking about here. It will probably be sustained but at least so far we’re talking about a short term drop that only hurts the profit of large corporations and investors. Anyone else who lost big in this so far lost precisely because they put faith in the stock market anyway. They gambled their money on corporate profits. They quite literally gambled their money on corporate profits. Sure, there’s sustained downturn that means layoffs, but ask yourself how and why. Is it because this all impacts the layman directly or is it because the layman has been caught up in the stock market bubble? Our entire economy is a debt financed house of cards that has little to do with the worker these days and the fact of the matter is Main Street is not Wall Street.

This. I just want to point out last week that the Fed stayed its duty was protect the securities market. That’s code for keep corporate profits high while they lay off their workers and if it comes down to it they’ll start buying. I mean who do you guys think an economic stimulus plan would benefit? It’s the banks that get bailed out and the can just gets kicked down the road while the debt bubble rises and the everyman suffers.

I don’t agree with everything you said. I thought that was clear. Of course there would be “ramifications” if X happens, but X hasn’t happened and it has little do with my original claim anyway.

I am and they are but not knowingly or or willingly is my point. The average American now works for a corporation and lives paycheck to paycheck. The only reason their livelihood is tied to the financial markets is because the corporation they work for would gladly cut ties with them and kick them out on the street before they let profits dip. I see it all the time how companies treat workers like chaff to trim away just to maximize valuations. This whole thing is a debt finance fueled bubble and the welfare of the Average American has been irrevocably hitched to the greed of corporations. The macroeconomic indicators are everywhere and I’m sure you could easily find a graph for CAPE ratios, median male wage vs GDP, Wall Street vs Main Street. Here’s an article talking about exactly what I’m saying.

https://seekingalpha.com/article/4274153-reminder-wall-street-not-equal-main-street

The Fed could easily reach out to Main Street but they won’t. They and Trump will talk to Wall Street execs and big airlines and such and if need buy stocks and bail out the banks while inflating the market more and more and encouraging Americans to take on more and more debt and increasingly hitch their wagons to a debt bubble that profits banks and not small businesses and not workers.

Okay so what's you're point? A few posts ago you were talking about how the markets mean nothing to a normal person, now you're talking about how most normal people are stuck at the will of the markets and why that's bad. Which is it?

>> No.14868076

Well, yeah sorry. I guess I wasn’t clear and I want to reel back what I said originally. It just bothers me I guess. What I mean was people shouldn’t be invested into this in the sense that they think hits to the stock market are hits to the economy. It’s hits to corporate profits. I understand why they care but that caring is the reason that that this is the situation in the first place and it’s the reason the can will continue to get kicked down the road. When stocks drop, corporations lose profit, not Main Street businesses but because corporations want to keep their profits, they’ll lay Americans off and the Fed will come out and cut rates and encourage taking on debt and do all of these things which protect big business but hurt Americans. For that reason, they should disconnect entirely because worry about it gives it that power of them is my point basically.

You will never know the ever-present fear of God like your ancestors did. You can go to church everyday and truly believe you have faith but it will pale in comparison to the perpetual religiosity of true Christians. The average French peasant live in the Kingdom of Heaven and all you can do is stare at God's corpse and pretend he stares back while nihilism drips off of you every thought.

That guy is a retarded ideologue. Your analysis and predictions seem fairly accurate from what I have gathered. You are missing an important aspect, however. Due to the highly infectious nature of the virus it will grow exponentially and overwhelm the surge capacity of healthcare systems. This will cause the mortality rate to rise substantially as many that suffer from the severe pneumonia caused by the virus require a ventilator to survive and there are only a limited number of ICU beds with ventilators available at any given time. Furthermore, due to the exceeded surge capacity others will start dying from other unrelated ordinarily preventable causes as they will be unable to go to a hospital to receive treatment.
