if i had a lot of money and was fucked up enough to have a servant, i would do the moral thing and either give it all away and emancipate the person or off myself AND give it all away thus emancipating the person. that said, i do enjoy being read to. i'd much rather have a friend or partner do that for me, though.

Because many Asian women are poor and uneducated for anything other than housework. I had a driver and someone to hang around for most of the day cooking meals, cleaning the house, doing the laundry, taking care of me and my brother etc. It was not a thankless relationship, and for the wealthy family where the father is constantly on business trips and the mother regularly at events having servants is rather useful. But ultimately I do think it is regrettable that servants should exist out of lack of access to proper education and jobs.

Reading important books needs to be done with much attention so reading them yourself would be better. But my brain works better if i read, other brains might function differently. Doing something like watching YouTube lectures does not educate me as reading can.
