People always say read Kant --> Hegel --> Marx because they built on eachother, but can someone explain the actual links between each of them? I tried skimming the wiki on PoS and it's just a bunch of shit about consciousness. How the fuck does Marx fit into this?

Hegel cooked up the Dialectic, which Marx would adopt later in a materialistic fashion.

Basically Hegel thinks that ideas play off one another and synthesize into knowledge, bringing us ever closer to understanding. Hence, history progresses.

Ditto with Marx, only the struggle is a matter of class, bringing us ever closer to justice.

Neither knew anything about history really, but they represent the bulk of lefty historism.

Kant posited that objects of possible experience must conform to categories of the understanding. Hegel thought it illegitimate that Kant just lifted those categories from Aristotle and presented them as set in stone. He instead showed a historical development of the categories where they constantly moved and developed through contradiction, ultimately sublating the "stage" they attained with Kant (transcendental idealism). Marx realized that this entire Hegelian movement of ideas or of the Spirit is nothing but a philosophical derivation of the historical movement of society, which is primary and likewise develops through contradiction.

Good summary. I just want to add that Marx is not necessarily a response to Hegel, as most Marxists today follow Althusser's reading of Marx, which attempts to disconnect many parts of his social/political/economic thought from the shadow of Hegelian philosophy.

Marx mooches off their ideas and self inserts his own to make his ideas seem to have a strong base.
He is a jew and a rascal.

Sounds like most "Marxists" today are wrong then. Understanding Hegel is not necessary at all for a solid understanding of Marx, but no one needs some academic hack to tell them that. And Marx definitely doesn't need him to disconnect anything from anything. Still, I admire him for making a professional career out of doing useless shit that nobody needed, except for next generations of jerkoffs who have similar plans for their life.
