What do you think of Steven Kings reading list?

and if you don't, what would you reccommend to writers instead if you were in his place?

I feel like the highest substance stuff on there should realistically be the lowest. The reach books are Delillo and Bowles novels and the bottom level are junk food airport books. Maybe this is why I don't like Steven King.

I remember in one of his books there was an aspiring writer who denounced the pretentiousness of literature and, to his teachers' chagrin, wrote horror novels. But ironically the most unpretentious and deepest writers are absent from this list, with the exception of maybe Dickens. Dostoevsky's absence is just so telling.

What would I add? The Aeneid and some Crime and Punishment for sure.

I gave up with this guy years ago round about the second Dark Tower book. It just seemed to me he was up his own meta even by then. Best work is still the early stuff (Cujo, The Stand, etc.), but I largely don't give a shit about him any more and he's not someone I'd think of as reliable when it comes to author recommendations.
