I come in peace to this board for the first time since 2014 with hope that it is the one place where all is not lost, but I see even here, everyone’s flinging shit at each other. Why are everyone’s jimmies so rustled? What happened to the memes that mocked edgelords? Is society collapsing beyond repair? Why was the internet more optimistic during the Great Recession than it is now, during a financial boom? What is going on /lit/? I expect you guys to have a better understanding of this climactic shift than any other board.

I'm sorry, what financial boom? We are still reeling from 2007. The Internet changed around that time due to phoneposters and other assorted shit that I'm too lazy to write about.

The increasing political polarization has claimed so much of the discourse that the people who are capable of creative developments are silenced for belonging to the opposition, if only for being moderate, case in point: >>14688146 (I’m only from real life and one private forum, not reddit)
If polarization of thought encourages all accepted ideas to either support or antagonize a left/right dichotomy, communities quickly become echo chambers or circlejerks of stale rehashed ideas, and individuals who are capable of new ideas either get sucked into dead end rabbit holes where their voices are heard, or ignored.
