What are the best novels and/or philosophical writings about magic, esoterism and/or spiritualism?
I wanna read Novalis, but apart from him, Evola, and Guénon, what else can I read?

>> No.14428593

Esoterism has nothing to do with the modern occultist spiritualism you mention. Just read the classics of world religion (Plato, Aquinas, Shankara, Ibn Arabi, etc.) You will get much more out of that than any spiritualist garbage.

Many of the ancient Greek Tragedies have indirect displays of all that mystery religion stuff but they like to cloak it with a specific vocabulary to keep the unworthy out.

Plato and Ficino are required
Apuleius is required for stuff on magic (the magic ass and the demon of Socrates)

idk about the rest. here's a lovely quote from "the golden fleece"

>...they touched at the island of Electra, daughter of Atlas, in order that by gentle initiation they might learn the rites that may not be uttered, and so with greater safety sail over the chilling sea. Of these I will make no further mention. But I bid farewell to the island itself and it's gods to whom those mysteries belong, which is not lawful for me to sing.

and one from Ficino

> in Plato's The Symposium, Aristophanes describes a fantastic unbelievable tale; but this was done to hide the divine mystery. This was the method and custom of the ancient theologians: to hide their divine, pure secrets from the unworthy masses with veils and symbols.

i know this will sound like and /x/ tier post, but a person cannot really know something esoteric without practicing esoteric practices. It is best to start with meditation and contemplation about your self and your experiences by being really honest with yourself and your relationship with the world around you. That is a start. Books can give you small pointers where to look for answer, but in the end, the answer lies within you. Be quiet and listen to yourself, and then you will hear much more than you ever dreamd off.

Any books on how to meditate?

>> No.14429623

Step 1: Sit/lay down/walk
Step 2: Choose object to observe, easiest is breath.
Error: Failure to maintain concentration on object detected.
Step 3: Return attention to object of focus.

That is literally all there is too it, at least for the stage you are at. Anyone trying to complicate it beyond this for beginners is trying to sell you something.

try zen meditation, im sure there are books about that. Tldr.: zen meditation is about observing your breath, by observing movement of abdomen while inhaling and exhaling breath and observing thoughts as they appear and disappear. With time, one can feel prana (or chi, bioenergy and what not), but that is not a real deal. Why I said what i said is that when a person meditates reguraly, (english bad), his intuition increases and persons starts to absorb deep insights about themselfs and world and people around them, and for me, i learned more from that than reading esoteric books. And i did red lot of them only to learn that they do not help that much without some practice. It is like watching porn, but not fucking a lady. You will never know how does it feel. You just need to do it to know. But if you do not understand what i said start with some entry shit like recommended, it is good to contemplate on it. Spirituality is not for everyone no matter how i would like to be, one has to be ready, but op is i guess. Sacrifice is to great for ppl to pursue it to the end so many just turn to normal life. If you are ready to sacrifice everything to know Truth than it will be waiting for you, any less than that, well no cake. I dont know, read Rumi, he is a wise guy.
