/pol/ in its early days was like /b/ before it became swamped with porn. It didn't take itself too seriously and was all about just trolling the shit out of everyone with racism and anime pics. That makes sense. It's a shame really. The truly nice thing about 4chan is the anonymity and the ability to truly seek knowledge free from the past. It doesn't matter what you thought in the last thread and, similarly, your contributions or failures aren't tied to an account/post history. 4chan used to be like those Tibetan sand paintings in that everything was gone in the end but I suppose archives really ruined that.

True, and I am not really a fan, but these things function more like the esoteric continuation of broader more open sub-cultures found on other platforms. For example everyone in a discord on subject X will likely have a twitter account and engage in the broader twitter community revolving around subject X but only invite those they consider "worthy" to their discord or line or any other smaller, closed, platform. It is in these hermetic communities that really niche sensibilities get established and 'raid culture" lives on and in this way they can wage asymmetrical memetic warfare on other, much bigger sites.

Again, I am not here trying to advocate for it. This is just what is happening.
