When I was a kid my dad used to read books by John Grisham constantly. I read like 5 in a row when I was 12-13 and found the pages would fly by like nothing. Eventually I got tired of them because I felt they were all kind of the same, but looking back I wonder how it was so good at hooking me. Is it just cliffhangers at the end of every chapter?

Those kinds of books use slightly bigger font/spacing/margins/line spacing to make you feel like you're reading faster than you are. James Patterson says that he puts something in every page to keep the reader interested, so yes they are a drug.

Most of the time it's small pointless things like whether or not he has read a certain book. I'm pretty sure he lied about taking a switchblade off a mugger, and a lot of his stories about exploring the wilderness and encountering bears/elephants are exaggerated or outright lies. A lot of his travel stories are lies and he lies about dogs a lot. He claims to be some kind of amazing dog trainer but his dog doesn't even listen to him and I've seen him force the dogs hind legs to sit (which actual dog owners would never need to do). He also used to walk around with a puppy in his messenger bag like Paris Hilton (wtf who does that?). He is an interesting person to psycho-analyze, in a lot of ways he is very similar to the average '4chan incel' he claims to hate.

He has very obvious tells when he's lying. He will get exasperated and search for words, then get the story straight in his head and speak slowly and confidently straight at the camera with complete conviction.

At what point did it become acceptable to just post a YouTube link with an inflammatory comment? I'm all for inflammatory threads, but I can recall a time when you had to actually do a little work. If you wanted to rile up the board you'd need to transcribe the important parts of the video, or convert them to a gif/webm with subtitles. Most of the time you'd also have to post a few "bait" responses as well. A picture of a cute woman couldn't hurt.
I don't come to 4chan to use YouTube/Reddit/Facebook. I already feel like I'm using these services when I talk to people IRL. There is currently an alarming centralization of the internet. It has been happening for a long time, but it's getting to the point where I can't escape it. News articles linking to Facebook videos I can't watch without an account. Fake advertising fads spreading like wildfire. This is to be expected from the other services but not here. In five years 4chan will be bleating about the same stupid baby Yoda bullshit everyone else does. That one cute girl who was a meme awhile back (the "hit the dab" one) was clearly viral marketing for tick tock (Chineese dataset collection software for training AI) and no one seems to care.

I believe that he reads very fast, but without full comprehension. Sometimes he will give a book a bad review, then a friend will tell him it was good, so he goes back and rereads and changes his mind.

Speed-reading contemporary fiction at 100+ pages an hour for 10 hours a day sounds like a truly awful existence. The highlight of his year is getting blurbed on some second-rate piece of genre fiction. I really don't understand why he does this for a living, he could definitely get a job as an English teacher and his life would be 10 times more fulfilling.
