there is no proof he reverted to Catholicism, that seems like its just cope desu, why would he do that when he considered Sufi metaphysical teachings; to which he had direct access, to be closer to the truth?

its the same god behind everything, just worn many mask's. Catholicism has been nothing but the priesthood binding the population by laws and "validating" the kingship rule. I can say god is real, but who that is I can not.

Guenon wasn't anti-Catholic you realize. He liked scholastic metaphysics very much and he uses it throughout his best works the The Reign of Quantity instead of using something else like Sufi metaphysics. I am not going to deny that was a Muslim, to do so would be absurd, but I am trying to say that he is not some anti-Catholic proselytizer like people on this board mistakenly think him to be.

He said that scholastic metaphysics was completely right at what it investigated, but its only issue was that it did not investigate the realm of non-being beyond being and needed to be taken even further.

In which book(s) does he talk about the Scholastics?

>> No.14372454

>>14372417
Almost all of his books he discusses them at least briefly. I know for certian the The Reign of Quantity discusses them quite heavily for the first part of the book. Man and his Becoming According to the Vedanta, Chapter 10 specifically, talks about some of the similarities between the two traditions. In footnote 11 of chapter 10 he specifically states how Thomas Aquinas's doctrine of Angels lines up almost perfectly with Shankras conception of the multiple states of being.

Christians say everyone "reverts" on their deathbed. Theyre dying, addled with pain, doped up on meds and searching for hope while surrounded by pestering Christian women. It's cope, not true belief in any sense and more often than not a lie constructed either by their families/friends or by General christians.

Catholics have no Metaphysics, only glorifying whatever they claim to know through (bad) Phenomenology and ascribing 1:1 ideas thereof to God, i.e. the apparent Relativism of temperature as "proof" that God affirms Relativism in general. LITERALLY crypto-Buddhism.

> ascribing 1:1 ideas thereof to God
Aquinas specifically writes that qualities cannot be ascribed either univocally or equivocally and can only be ascribed through analogy. Your point is very odd and shows doctrinal ignorance at best, and religious anxiety at worst.

>> No.14373016

>>14372920

I don't care if they are ascribed through analogy, my point is that said qualities are exclusively inferred from (bad) Phenomenology, from the bottom-up as it were, and thus cannot really pass for Metaphysics.

de maistre is about the most unconventional and irrational catholic thinker there ever was, he has nothing to do with metaphysics

Is it true this guy was a Freemason and a Catholic? How did he make sense of that?

>> No.14375068

>>14375011
Yes he was both, but it was at a time in which freemasonry had yet to be banned. Later in his life he said that he did not get much out of it, if I recall correctly.

Freemasonry as an organization went through significant changes around the time of de Maistre. Not all lodges were anti-clerical and some were simply based around ancient philosophy. However, once illuminism, rationalism, and revolutionary sentiment began to dominate, the Church decided to no longer put up with it.
