Maybe if you read more about collapse you might come to terms to the fact that there really isn't going to be a collapse, as It is already happening. Collapses occur in different ways in history, and this time its gradual, so go full kaczynski or full ruralist depending where you are living

The neo-liberal order is very stable. It's collapse will be due to technological-environmental damage. It will last for hundreds of years, and the planet will be too damaged for anything to take its place. Best case scenario is some miracle of a nuclear apocalypse, but given that the order controls even the "crazy" opposition like North Korea, there really isn't any chance of this.

I think this mistake is nearly as grave as saying the system will never collapse. You're putting all your trust in a house of cards. Maybe you are trying to cope so you won't have to take action in this life? Elaborate if you think I'm mistaken.

>The order controls even 'crazy' opposition.
Seems to me like the opposition is extemely fierce and most people seem to have forgotten these leaders are no better than tribal warlords wanting to flay their enemies alive. I'd say the underlying order is all parties knowing full-out war will lead to a collapse: no grid=no power. Source on this is Jacques Ellul 's 'The Technological Society', BUT Stanley Kubrik's 'Dr. Strangelove', though being quite comical, perfectly illustrates how a random powertrip could fuck all.

No one has been able to verify the mathematics. Ever wondered why we stopped “testing” them as video footage continued to progress? Remember, we have no modern footage of a nuclear explosion. It might not collapse into primitivism or violence, maybe just evolve into something so different that the label of a liberal democracy or nation-state no longer applies. All it took for the change from monarchy to nation-state was industrialization and the rise of the private capital (technology+a new powerful elite who hates the aristocratic elite above them). It's possible that traditional societies subjugated the merchant class and built their ethos around traditional immaterial values to prevent this.

All you need for change is: a super-elite that outgrows its usefulness to the elites slightly below it on the hierarchy, and loses it's control over them. For example, if multi-national corporations find the nation-state is hindering more than helping, they can easily outmaneuver them: create their own city-states within a nation by getting contracts to build "smart cities" or whatever, define their laws as "user agreements", and have private security protecting their land/property. They can use their campaign donations to favor decentralization to the city level, and have entire municipal councillors on their payroll.

Over time this leads to a state where the CEO is the de-facto monarch and smart-cities compete over citizen-customers by offering attractive services and exclusive subscription plans.

I don't know why certain elements on this board are so opposed to the idea that the current social order is in bad decline. And attempt, as if it is a good argument, to adduce as a motive for those of us who recognize that we are experiencing a decline that we are losers, and pray for collapse because we believe we will somehow be better off in that scenario. I am a bit of a loser, but I know that social collapse won't be good for me or almost anyone. I don't even necessarily think that social collapse writ large is imminent. What I believe is I think based on a rational extrapolation of current trends--particularly trends which alert us to rapid environmental degradation. Can anyone really answer to this?

>civilization's collapse precipitated by climate change
The mechanisms of every facet of modern society are like sugar-glass. Ethnic and economic conflict, if not a collapse of the entire world financial system (planned or unplanned) will cause the wide-spread conflict envisioned by many, not a fucking hurricane on some Caribbean shithole island. A civil war in Mexico would create 1000x more refugees to pour into the USA than some poorly defined "climate catastrophe."

Pretending that society is fraying for any reason other than established natural patterns being intentionally disrupted (social and physiological, not climatological) is preparing for a flood when your house is in the course of a forest fire. It's not a sign of intellectual capacity or superior analytical ability to construct an entire false narrative for inevitable collapse. Nafeez Ahmed is a mouthpiece for a hoped-for "best case scenario" by elites where they're seen as messianic saviors for peddling climate change as the cause for modern societal ails. He's sharp in that he realizes what message is in demand, not because he has accurately defined the problems we currently face hurdling into the 2020's.

I'm certainly not convinced of it being the main cause of societal collapse. The narrative that it is has been constructed to "sanitize" the reality of the coming erosion of sovereignty of the established powers. You're retarded if you think that Climate threat is a little more wind once a year and whatnot. Climate Change is extremely dangerous because of its effect on crops, biodiversity, water temperatures, positive feedback loops, and your own fucking body. What you don't understand is that a small shift in the average can result in a huge shift in extremes. And guess what kills people and plants? Extreme temperatures. Do you follow? When you have hugeass areas on the world map housing millions of individuals that cannot be inhabited anymore, it creates massive migrations. When you have countries where it doesn't rain enough anymore, you end up with migrations. When you have rising sea levels, you end up with migrations eventually. Climate change is a danger to us as a species, especially since it can spiral out of control and heat the planet to insane levels we wouldn't be able to withstand.

All of this is just Climate Change. When you add resources scarcity, soil depletion, and all the financial bubbles that may explode at any time, you'd have to be a fool to think we're not on the verge of societal collapse.

Also, collapse is long process of degradation. It's not an event, although violent events can accelerate it.

I find the problem of peak oil to be rather convincing and worthy of attention on multiple fronts. There really isn’t any debate that oil is finite and we will run out nor are there any viable alternatives regardless of what advertising and media claim. The whole of techno-industrial civilization runs on oil. Most of the products in your house are made from oil. Modernity is basically built on oil. We hit peak oil back in the 90s-early 2000s and things have been been strange to say the least ever since. Without touching on the Economics or peak oil, which are grim to say the least, from a philosophical perspective there’s an obvious issue at hand which is the notion of techno-industrial “progress” is essentially built on the notion of boundless energy potentiality, but we know it’s not true. Oil represents infinite growth in the mind of the modern, but in practice it’s simply not infinite and it’s not renewable. What happens when oil runs out or is no longer economically viable? There might be a push to alternative forms of energy, but if you look into those they all run on oil basically so those will fade out too. That means the products go away. The factories close down. Cars stop running. Goods stop being transported. The Arab states, North America, and Western Europe will be hit the hardest. All of these things we’ve grown accustomed to simply aren’t sustainable no matter how you dress it up. So, I don’t think you need to talk of nuclear armageddon or civil wars or global natural disaster, all of which are entirely possible. We’ve created our own disaster and march right into it.

>> No.14322528

Western society will dissolve, disintegrate, not collapse. At least in our lifetimes. Maybe once climate change displaces millions of people from the equatorial regions things will flare up violently but until then the only form of 'collapse' I anticipate is the rich hunkering down into lush suburbs with private armed security hoarding the resources and pretending things are still normal while social institutions like the welfare state continue to be broken down by asset-stripping scavenger-capitalists in the name of the free market. The data on the number of deaths such sell-offs and cuts cause will be suppressed or simply not collected, as a means of continuing the narrative that all is well. It's been happening already since the 1970s and the rise of neoliberalism; all that will happen is that the circle will continue to shrink. Each of us, we're all in the 'in' group where everything is normal and you get a fair day's pay for a fair day's work and that's enough to support a stable contemporary lifestyle on... right up until we aren't.

I don't predict any revolutions or mass bloodshed in the next 20-30 years. Just a whole lot of people losing their jobs, their homes, their health, their faith and eventually their lives.

We have not passed peak production, we are burning more oil now than ever before. But one of these days we will have peaked and I wonder how life on the other end of the curve will be. The US effectively hit peak oil back in the 90s. We’ve just stretched it out and multiplied energy production with the use of methods like fracking and alternative energy. Frankly, it’s not even a matter of production as much as a philosophical and economical issue. Economically it’s no longer viable and this trend can only continue. Production companies have levered up balance sheets and aren’t able to turn cash flow positive. With such a capital intensive business model the company end is near considering they’re finding it increasingly difficult to get financing. Hence the philosophical question of peak oil. Economic theory and the mindset of modern man views energy exploration as infinitely exponential in terms of potentiality and it’s just not. The financial reality speaks to this. Eventually the finite input to infinite output model will collapse or simply be rejected altogether whether it’s from a purely economic/scientific view or a philosophical/moral one.

There will be no global wars in future, and civilization will not collapse. Fucking poltards are so out of touch with the real life, if they want society to drown in blood, why don't they just kill themselves? We now live longer, better, healthier and happier than any previous generation of men, and every year millions of people are leaving the poverty trap. We will terraform Mars, we will build the Dyson sphere, we will meet the extraterrestrial species in a few centuries. Polcels, fuck off with your antihumanist agenda, we are still evolving into superior species that we are destined to become by nature. God doesn't exist btw. The Universe does, and the Multiverse too. Long live the Humankind! Read Stiven Pinker's Enlightenment Now if you want to learn more on this, that book literally cured my depression and made me believe in people again.

The "available evidence" is highly speculative and based on observations beginning in the 1850's. I'm willing to accept that deforestation is causing droughts, that massive forest fires are the result of rising temperatures, that ocean acidification is killing coral reefs, that CO2 levels are higher than in the past. I'm not willing to accept that these things are correlated in the way pop-science pseuds claim they are. I think much more study is needed before any conclusions are drawn, let alone alarmist ones that very conveniently benefit the agenda of those currently in power. What's happening to the planet is a travesty but I'm not convinced it's a world ending one, at least not because of ocean garbage and jet-airliners.

i know this is bait but you're dead wrong with your attempt at seeming pseudo enlightened that its excruciatingly ill informed at this point. The world will continuously become more and more a chaotic dyspotian based reality if we're not already experiencing the beginning stage of one. Just you wait for the rise of a totalitarian one world government that will begin a massive depopulation through perpetual small time wars fought over resources, land, etc, slowly the laws being changed over time to take away the rights of citizens, the replacement of said population with demographic change from third world countries where a clash of cultures will occur and bastardization to complete decadence of humanity the list goes on for which you can simply imagine.... Even with technology cannot help the inevitable destruction of mankind. Because at the end of the day humanity is the enemy of itself.

>go full kaczynski or full ruralist
this isn't easy to accomplish. Kaczynski had money and a brother to help him. I can't even get someone to employ me for minimum wage, and jobseeker's allowance is shit in my country (5000 euro a year, barely enough to live on).
>just go live innawoods
>just watch a youtube video on building a log cabin :D
it doesn't work that way. You can't just build a cabin on public land. Specifically I'm Irish, but I'm sure this applies to most countries. There aren't vast areas of land that no one passes through. I'm homeless - I have a lot of experiences living in different environments. Even pitching a tent you get harassed and it's technically illegal on 99.9% of land (the remaining 0.1% there are VERY stringent rules - can't stay more than a day, can't use a stove, etc.). If you were to start on a cabin guaranteed patrols will tell you to fuck off within a week even if you're in a place that's seemingly remote (public forests are looked after in Ireland by coillte and yes, they patrol everywhere on this island).

The >innawoods thing is pure escapism. It's never going to shape into reality. The only people who can realistically do it are upper class inheritance people, and if you think I'm full of shit, consider the planning permission. You can't just put up a log cabin with a log stove, even if you've paid for the land. You need to pass modern planning permission standards - including adequate insulation. It's illegal to build a wooden house if you intend on living in it. It's minimum 60,000 euro to have any kind of home, and property tax every year. There isn't some secret trick no one but you is aware of - it's illegal, simple as.

Unless your goal is to fly to Alaska and be an illegal immigrant somewhere in their vast unpopulated wilderness, you will never achieve a remote lifestyle. Kaczynski and Dick Proenneke were both well off, during a time when laws weren't as stringent regarding where you have to live. There is a reason the only people who do this anymore are millionaire youtubers, who technically live "off grid", but have the fastest internet, computers, and basically live in extreme wealth.

We know that CO2 concentration in the atmosphere is heavily correlated with a rise in mean global temperature. Regardless of mass extinctions, topsoil degradation, pollution, deforestation, which I suppose if you want to play the skeptic you may say may or may not be related to climate change, I think it's pretty clear that conditions an a planet 2-3 degrees Celsius hotter than it is no are not ideal, actually represent a major threat.
