yes, the ones with authors. i think it's difficult to find good literary podcasts, and the ones that get big or interesting names are usually so slick and fawning and they all reiterate the exact same fucking points and work more like advertisements than actual discussions
BEE can be great when paired with another author, it's often a very candid conversation and he has a good way of delivering hard-hitting questions in tender wrapping. the kushner and moshfegh episodes were terrific

i find it interesting that bret often spends a lot of his "monologue" time talking about movies (which he has tons of opinions on) rather than books (which is usually "x was great" or "i didn't like author y's last one"). i guess he's bitter about having been mangled half to death by the hollywood machine by this point, with what sounds like dozens of shelved/cancelled projects, whereas publishing was always a kinda smooth ride for him and there's probably always a free slot at knopf for a new BEE novel?

American Psycho was interesting for a spell, but ultimately ran out of gas somewhere between his tenth gruesome murder and fifth chapter devoted to reciting a review about a popular art. I understand that the point was to fill the book with as many empty dialogues as possible to showcase how utterly devoid of personality those yuppies are, but it just drags on and on. Are his other books better in this regard?
