I've been thinking about this just today actually. I've noticed that in the philosophy of mind, thought experiments are all, without exceptions, utterly useless. They're usually translated as "imagine this scenario where I set up everything in a way that makes my point true, now tell me, am I right?" Chinese room experiment, Mary the colour scientist, China brain... they are literally all foregone conclusions.
