>pride is the greatest sin.
what did HE mean by this?

>> No.14135761

Christianity was born as THE antithesis to Roman master values. Once you understand that, it makes sense that aristocratic pride becomes a sin

I'm not going to retype the entire argument here, but everything that was of value in the Greek-Roman world becomes the opposite in Christianity, which posited other values, slave-thinking par excellence

>> No.14136492

Pride is a capital sin (one of the seven deadly), but it is not stated as the greatest. The greatest in heaven is the most humble and a servant to all. Pride is in direct opposition to this and leads to hatred of God.

18:1-5
http://www.usccb.org/bible/matthew/18
At that time the disciples approached Jesus and said, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"
He called a child over, placed it in their midst,
and said, "Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.

20:25-28
http://www.usccb.org/bible/mt/20:25
But Jesus summoned them and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and the great ones make their authority over them felt.
But it shall not be so among you. Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant;
whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave.
Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many."

23:11-12
http://www.usccb.org/bible/mt/23:11
The greatest among you must be your servant.
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

From the catechism:
http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG0015/__P7C.HTM
- hatred of God comes from pride. It is contrary to love of God, whose goodness it denies, and whom it presumes to curse as the one who forbids sins and inflicts punishments.

But the Bible never says this. In fact, Jesus clearly states that the greatest sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Blasphemy IS pride. Pride is the worst because it represents corruption of the spirit and of what makes us close to God. Blasphemy can't be done from ignorance, and is pride against God.

>> No.14136625

Pride makes you convinced in your own goodness and leads to self-righteousness. Goodness is equated with perfection, and if you are prideful to believe in your goodness, then that means you believe you are at such a state of perfection where you need no further improvement of moral character and that all of your actions are just. Humility is the opposite of this sin and keeps it at bay. Recall the famous quote by Socrates: "The only thing I know is I know nothing", and from the Tao Te Ching: "Those who know it do not know, and those who do not know, know it".

Jesus, what happened to this board. Pride is generally acknowledged as the greatest sin due to the fact that all sin comes from pride. Through pride alone does man act out against God, as satan did. Pride is the reason why sin exists in the first place. Adam and Eve bit the fruit because they trusted their own selves over God. Also, take note how the goal of Buddhism is to overcome the ego, and how that relates to the Christian view of pride.
>>14136522
Blasphemy against the Holy spirit is rejecting God. The reason it is unforgivable is due to rejecting God, not because God is unwilling to forgive.
>>14136492
Pride is most definitely on the top of the ladder in sin, I've heard this in Catholic lectures repeatedly.

Well, Lucifer, or satan fell from heaven because of pride, if you read Isaiah 14. Pride is also the one big factor that prevents people from getting saved because it makes people not rely 100% on the finished work of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 5:8 kjv
>But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

I believe that taking responsibility for your own actions it's the base of the whole judeo-christian ethical system, and it's implied since the ancestral sin in Genesis. Pride itself blinds you, and you start making excuses to avoid that responsibility, which will eventually lead you to other sins. Also, pride should not be confused with vanity, because after all, "all is vanity"; i think "pride" it's more bound to the greco-roman concept of "hubris".

I'm no expert tho, so i don't know how accurate is this.

How can i explain that, since i took semen retention, i became so much compassionate and in touch with others, much more charming and also thoughtful, but at the same time it made me so much more defiant of the church?

I feel Catholicism is wrong, trying to tide the spirit itself in a church is just decrepit as hell, it feels just wrong, the spirit is everywhere, acting in the present, not just in a church with pre-fabricated phrases that aren't valid at all to the current situation

Recently my country literally rebelled against all kinds of institutions and financial/political ideas, people died on the streets putting their hearts into an idea that may be wrong, and the church instead of addressing the issues or talking about it and how it relates to justice and the spirit, they started talking about Israel and other shit, it's just wrong, the spirit can't be there, it's just trying to tide it to some symbolism but the spirit is completely free. Worse enough, the catholic church actually defends pedos who defend the military and their atrocities against the population

In all honesty, you're probably possessed by a demon. It is very common for them to make people feel good for conquering one sin while letting all the other sinful qualities of a person run rampant. It is also suspect how you grow more defiant of the Church. What you describe truly meets the criteria for demonic possession.

Yeah, well, i see what you mean, but the old testament it's still a hebrew book that deals on the topic of acknowledging your own responsibilities as a human being and a lot of times it's also about what happens when you don't do it, so you can't really get them out of the picture.

Pride is a sin because it seeks to praise the ego for the goods it has and the things it receives, and it eliminates gratitude.

Satan's sin was pride. He was so blessed with goods and yet he wanted to be good on his own terms without having to be grateful for all he was given.
