I come back here 5 years later and see no more DFW, no more meme trilogy, no more Pinecone posting, no more nabokov. What happened lads? I miss the wallace memes. Why are we not discussing literature anymore?

You cant have browsed for more than like an hour

There's still a fair amount of Nabokov, except nu-/lit/ has laughably bad taste and doesn't seem to like Nabokov as much. /lit/'s in a bad way.

There's a fair amount of Pynchonposting. Far less DFW though. I do with the trilogy were discussed more, of the three I'd say GR is most discussed followed by U then IJ

People who read only to affirm their identity took over from people who read for the enjoyment of the written word and turned the board into /pol.

Flee! Flee for your life!

Infinite Jest is great, go away with your pretentious and crabby mentality. Also actual 17 years olds read Rowling or garbage Sci-fi

>> No.14031797

>>14031770

It's not great. It peaks at very good.

The purpose of long passages is not evident and strikes one as gratuitous. There are beginner's errors near the beginning of the book, which I'm guessing he hoped would get buried under its bulk. Don't ask me for specifics, I don't remember.

Everyone realized we had to move on if this board was going to move forward. There are still posts about them every day though so shut up.

This movie was pretty disappointing. Segel didn't capture any of Wallace's wit or thoughtfulness. He just played him as "tortured semi-retarded genius".

>> No.14031832

Old-/lit/ was retroactively BTFO'd by Guénon (CoTMW and in Reign of Quantity) and phased out. Nu-/lit/'s survival is dependent on how closely we follow Guenon's prescription

OP here, what's up with Guénon? Who here genuinely enjoy reading this guy? At least the old meme authors were actually fun to read

>> No.14031867

>>14031843
I had a feeling someone might say this. I guess I would argue that DFW may have fit that description, but not in the way that Segel believes. I feel like he played him as a traditional Oscar-bait headcase, where DFW's issues were a bit more complicated yet mundane.

I unironically think Jordan Peterson and Donald Trump helped kill the big pomo novel around here. (Joyce, Pynchon, Wallace, DeLillo, Gaddis, Gass, Barth, Vollmann, McElroy.)

That is simply not true. People wished they could get a copy of women and men and I posted a summary of cannonball a few years ago. Some anons have mentioned they liked lookout catridge. McElroy has never been anything resembling popular on this board.
