Post here if you wasted your life. How do you handle having wasted your life, what coping strategies have you developed, and what is the emotional and social impact wasting your life has had?

For me, I got a mech eng degree, couldn’t find any job, gave up looking and now work in a factory making 11 dollars an hour. I’m thinking I’ll end it all one of these days.

>> No.14027735

Where do you live that a factory job only pays 11 an hour?

In the Midwest, what they do around here is bring you on as a “temp” that only makes 11 dollars an hour. I do the exact same work at the exact same pace as the people who make 17 dollars an hour but they cycle through people like me to keep costs down. It’s humiliating and degrading but I have no other options.

I'm in the 6th year of my 3 year bachelors degree.
people ask me why I havent had a gf yet, but idk how to tell them I am a failure so I drink and eat space cake. does that count as a wasted life?

If you waste your life - your cope is dreaming something up that makes it all bearable.
If you do something with your life - your cope is this something that makes it all bearable.
Either or - it is your cope. To live is to cope, either by action or by dreaming.
The prominent take is that actions are more potent than dreams, which is to say: actions are the more potent cope. This stance itself is part of the action-minded-cope-lifeforms. copety cope.

What the fuck is a life not wasted? We’re just trapped in a dying cage of flesh. Does something exterior give you meaning? No. Does living like a pig in our market democracy give you meaning? No. Does searching for yourself give you meaning? No. Money? Meaning? No. Sex? Meaning? No. Family? Meaning? No. Just surrounded in a constant phenomena. What do you consider meaning, other than working closer to understanding what we are.

I graduated going on a year and a half ago; I did work related to my degree for about a year but now I hate the field and have bummed around the last couple months, ostensibly preparing graduate school applications but mostly reading and writing and stagnating. I had intended to get a master's or PhD but now realize that was stupid, especially in my field. If I can muster the energy I intend to apply to some law schools, although even if I do, and get acceptances, I might wait another year to build a stronger application. Considering some sort of medication. Currently, Robert Burton is my closest friend.

Take heart, though, anon: if you're also only a recent graduate, you have plenty of time. To my understanding, it only starts to be too late once you hit thirty. You have a perfectly good degree, suited for work in a respectable, lucrative field: keep applying.

I'm really disillusioned with academia, but a Masters is the only thing that can make me have a well paying job.

Too late for what? I think it’s too late for me to use my degree, I’ve been out 10 months, there’s zero fucking chance I’m ever going to work as an engineer. I’ve been turned down nonstop

Maybe you're applying too highly? Asking too much pay etc.? You could also maybe do some lower tier job in a company involving engineering, since it's often easier to job switch internal to a company.

I’ve wasted my life but I’m too listless to write about it. So yeah. Didn’t complete degree, no good job, no prospects for a good job, no gf, eternally battling drug addiction, and recently became a fatass. Undignified.

Well, I think we can look at the interior instead and say that there are potentially very satisfying experiences in life that one can miss out on, or that one never had the drive or opportunity to explore & apply the extent of their capacities.

I'm fine with being a thiest but I need something to push me over the edge. I might be able to find meaning in the Bible but I might be also able to find meaning from another book.

How do I convince myself of Christianity or Catholicism? I've asked for a sign, another anon has explained that also goes against the Bible. Thanks friend

Before anyone disparages this thread as off topic, I for one must say it's a capital idea to have general for this sort of thing since the board is oft far too littered with things of this ilk and a general could serve as a sort of containment.

I'm 24, just entering my 2nd year of my PhD (from 4 in total). All of my friends already have comfy jobs, good incomes, and have more or less settled down, and I live on my measly 1300/month scholarship in student accommodations.
The only positive is that I actually enjoy teaching and staying in academia still sounds extremely comfy (provided that I find a good job ofc), but I still constantly question whether it's worth it

Everyone's journey towards this truth is somewhat different, but, for me, the story of the Shroud of Turin was very inspirational. You can read a little bit about it at these websites:

https://newgeology.us/presentation24.html

https://aleteia.org/2016/04/11/new-study-the-shroud-of-turin-and-the-sudarium-of-oviedo-covered-the-same-person/

If you're a more philosophical person, the works of St. Thomas Aquinas or some other philosopher's works on the proof of God for some answers. You could otherwise read more modern Christian apologetics like Mere Christianity, The Case for Christ, and Evidence that Demands a Verdict.
For you specifically, I would say that since you have mentioned your personal feelings of depression, it may be good for you to start by simply getting involved with a local church. Talking with a priest or sympathetic churchgoers may really help you, and I suggest you give it a try.
Either way, friend, I will pray for you that you may sort out your financial troubles and that you will come to God. I love you.

I think you have me mixed up with another anon my friend. My only post is the one replying to you.

Anyways, I'll check out both of those my friend. I've been meaning to go to a church soon as well. I'm afraid I mostly only want religion for selfish reasons such at finding a girl with Christian morality etc. Anyways thanks anon, have a wonderful week

I'm sorry, I thought you were the OP. Either way I'm glad you plan on coming to church. I wouldn't worry too much about your own motivations for doing so. Just know that going to church can be a truly holy experience, and you should strive to appreciate it. Bless you, once more.
