Ha, I was actually thinking about which was the better one right before posting. Picked the Count because it was the first book I read cover to cover after 8 year of near sunsetting suicide and it really got me starting again.

Nice. I'm a newfag to /lit/ so I was worried I'd get bullied if I said The Count of Monte Cristo. Yeah the carnivale stuff drags on a bit but the adventuring and banditry is pretty fun. I also enjoyed how misanthropic the book could be bit without being edgy about it.
It's my equal favourite with Musashi. Interestingly they both begin quite similarly (don't worry, far from being a spoiler, literally the first thing that happens in both books) with the protag being imprisoned and forced to achieve expansion of knowledge and consciousness during their imprisonment. I wouldn't be surprised if Yoshikawa was inspired by Dumas.

I'm not that anon, but I'm relatively new too. I wanted to read more books now that I'm between jobs, so I went and got recommendations from friends, but hardly any of them read so those ran out quick and I had to find something online.

I tried reddit but their opinions and tastes are awful and just high school reading list tier, so I figured why not try out /lit/? I got into music from /mu/ chart threads and shitposts, became gay from /fit/, so I figured why not become a pseud from this board and top it all off?

Hey anon. I wouldn't say it was a board here it an eternal influence. I started lurking on 4chan in 2008 after chanology but it took a while before I started posting. Back then I was initially on /a/ most. Eventually I made the switch to /v/ when I started gaming again. But the last month or so I've been spending a lot of time on /ic/ because I've started drawing again for the first time since I was a teen.
I've had periods where I've dipped in and out of boards (fit, fa, diy) and I've always been impressed with the breadth of knowledge you can find on 4chan in amongst the shit posting and wojaks. And I've always been drawn to reading classical literature so I thought I'd check out /lit/.
