It only has to do with threads that get actual discussion. The people on this board are pretty decent at writing a good length, at the very least, so most of the time a thread with lots of replies has a good breadth of thoughtful posts. This is the opposite for boards like /v/ and /tv/, for examlle, where high traffic threads are almost always shit and off topic. The content of such threads is never inspected closely by janitors, even though that is what realky should matter. A shitty OP with good discussion following it is a good thread.

I did a philosophy paper (long time ago) in which I argued (farcically but with the intent to show the nonsense of Plato) that Socrates was the fictional character based on the real guy, but that the dialogs were a standup routine Plato did to make fun of the nonsense, circumlocution, arbitrary premises, ridiculous conclusion, and just plain obtuseness (what we would call autism these days) of the moron they all knew as Socrates.

I further argued that all of the characters of the age were being lampooned in this way, and that Plato became a name many authors wrote under to make fun of these kinds of stories.

Woven in to the faux argument of Socrates being fictional were the easy to point out tricks of what we now call sophistry, which was the aim of the paper in the first place.

The prof was furious, and took it to his chair, but I got an A anyway.
