I suppose this is the place to ask if anyone knows which anime this is:

someone here rec'd an anime awhile back and said it was one of the most interesting things he'd ever watched.

I remember watching the first few minutes of the first episode and it started off with floating buildings, black and white tiles maybe, magic girls and shit, talking about the nature of time or something. The only other scene I remember is the girl from that opening scene and her mother brushing their teeth together in a real open-floored bathroom.

I can't remember the name of it. does this sound remotely familiar to anyone?

Anyone ever watch “Patlabor 2” (1993)?
It is this eerily prescient anime by Mamoru Oshii about a secretive faction of the Japanese elite who stages a terrorist attack in order to precipitate a right wing coup against the Tokyo central government.
It is almost as though Oshii were a member of the Illuminati and was trying to warn us not to be suckered by carefully crafted spectacles into giving up our rights.

No show engaged me as Aku no Hana did. Look at what is produced each season and there will be only infantile and generic trash. Aku no Hana truly conveyed the tedium of which Baudelaire wrote: the monotonous town, the mundane routine, the ugly and petty characters, all are treading over you and stealing your soul. Facing this overwhelming panorama crushing you day after day you have no option but rebellion.

I read the whole manga and it was great but the anime had something special. Truly a shame that we'll never have a second season, thanks fucking weebs.

Old Boogiepop is great. It's a spinoff that assumes you've read the source material, which in effect means it spends minimal time explaining backstory and such to you, which actually works in its favour as a confusing pseudo-horror story. It still tells a complete (albeit episodic) story with enough substance to make it well worth the time, and if you're paying a moderate amount of attention you'll pick up everything you "missed" from the original. Watch it with headphones turned up slightly louder than you're used to - the sound design is easily the highlight, and when it wants things to be loud, the show knows what it's doing.

The anime industry hardly makes money and they have to exploid the same audience in order to keep their animators alive, while the next pokemon arive. The last time o read about the ABe-Konaja-Ueno (the Lain guys) next project: Despera was that nowadays the industry doens't think there is a market for them, so its been really hard to gather founds, that on top that his director died some tiem ago.

Since this thread didn't get nuked I'll shamelessly ask for a /lit/ recc.
I'm looking for something similar to hunter x hunter in literature, more specifically the sub-arc of the chimera ants where they invaded the palace.
The slow motion style of heavy narration and events taking part in seconds is something I had never seen done before, any anon can help me out?

you don't have a sister do you? even if she is atractive you need to be on an island to even start considering. The only atractive point on oreimo is the "forbiden" nature of the relation.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Joshiraku
Both by the same notoriously nationalistic and anxious author, Koji Kumeta. Both derive humour from the author's hopes and fears for the future of Japan.
SZS is the more visually interesting one of the two, pulling its aesthetic from Japan's Taisho and Showa periods, it focuses on a suicidal school teacher who is loosely based on the main character of No Longer Human.
Joshiraku is more laid-back, the humour is a little more organic, focuses on 5 traditional Japanese comediennes in their mid 20s shooting the shit in their dressing room, going on tangential rants about anything at all.
If either sound 2Japanese4u then they probably are.

thats the lastest western cartoons and comics. The trannies on japanese media are really rare, and actually are pretty cool, all of them are pretty much in your face and don't even demand respect or inclusiveness, is like they accept they are not the norm, so even the SJW ruined those kind of characters.

I agree, I wish it would've touched on Sato's drug use even a little. You couldn't really draw the conclusion that he was taking drugs from the anime. It just presented him as a paranoid shut in who's household items would occasionally communicate with him.

The second watch is worse desu, because you know all about Reki. and how her back story has influenced every choice shes made.
The line she has early on in the first episode about how shit it would be to be born in a room full of dust is awful once you know the story on how she was born.

FOr the people lurking, Im pretty sure the entire show with official subs was put on youtube recently, probably trying to make money from ads.

And to keep it lit related, the setting is ripped off from a Murakami novel.

It sounds so ridiculous, I cant stand it. Reki and Rakka aren't Reaki and Rakka unless they're in their og Japanese voices.

For what its worth I think the dub is on youtube too though
