Haven't seen the new one but the old one was pretty great, though it's kinda slow sometimes. There's this static filter over the whole show th a makes it kinda hard to watch but it really adds to the atmosphere. The filter also makes it great to watch alone in a dark room with headphones.

No show engaged me as Aku no Hana did. Look at what is produced each season and there will be only infantile and generic trash. Aku no Hana truly conveyed the tedium of which Baudelaire wrote: the monotonous town, the mundane routine, the ugly and petty characters, all are treading over you and stealing your soul. Facing this overwhelming panorama crushing you day after day you have no option but rebellion.

I read the whole manga and it was great but the anime had something special. Truly a shame that we'll never have a second season, thanks fucking weebs.

Old Boogiepop is great. It's a spinoff that assumes you've read the source material, which in effect means it spends minimal time explaining backstory and such to you, which actually works in its favour as a confusing pseudo-horror story. It still tells a complete (albeit episodic) story with enough substance to make it well worth the time, and if you're paying a moderate amount of attention you'll pick up everything you "missed" from the original. Watch it with headphones turned up slightly louder than you're used to - the sound design is easily the highlight, and when it wants things to be loud, the show knows what it's doing.

The characters, the movements, the atmosphere, it's an impressive piece of work. In my opinion, it's better than Tatami Galaxy, though TG is more similar to an actual piece of lit, you just don't get better than Ping Pong, it's a riot.

What is it about anime that makes it almost entirely shit?

Its almost a miracle that anime is being made, is not as cheap as a book which you can just print 100 copies, or a news article which the inly thing you spend is the credibility of the writer.

The anime industry hardly makes money and they have to exploid the same audience in order to keep their animators alive, while the next pokemon arive. The last time o read about the ABe-Konaja-Ueno (the Lain guys) next project: Despera was that nowadays the industry doens't think there is a market for them, so its been really hard to gather founds, that on top that his director died some tiem ago.

Both by the same notoriously nationalistic and anxious author, Koji Kumeta. Both derive humour from the author's hopes and fears for the future of Japan.
SZS is the more visually interesting one of the two, pulling its aesthetic from Japan's Taisho and Showa periods, it focuses on a suicidal school teacher who is loosely based on the main character of No Longer Human.
Joshiraku is more laid-back, the humour is a little more organic, focuses on 5 traditional Japanese comediennes in their mid 20s shooting the shit in their dressing room, going on tangential rants about anything at all.
