4chan has always been a home to people that feel socially ostracized in one way or another. That, combined with the inherent draw of knowledge or thought that feels forbidden leads to a gradually more extreme interest in far-right writing growing in the few places it is acceptable to discuss such things.

Young men in traditional societies will tend to rebel by moving hard to the left. Hence, hippies and before that, communists and trade unionists and so forth. Right now, society feels very gay and lefty, so the edgier types are reacting to what seems loudest and dominant by moving in the opposite direction.
