So, guys, listen to me right,
If determinism is right and everything a person does is defined by their upbringing, their genes, or the influence of other people, then surely it is not so false to assume you can tell the future?

There have been many instances when upon meeting someone I instantly knew how the next few months of their life would look. I also predicted lots of political changes - brexit, trump, a few accurate election results. And yeah, this helps with betting but I do feel it is more important on a more personal level.
Has anyone who's read a fair amount of psychology and philosophy had a similar experience?

When it was Trump vs Hillary my friend insisted Hillary would win because Trump was too funny to be real but I said "They'll never elect a woman as president, men don't respect them and women don't like them".

Obviously, given sufficient informarion.

Insufficient data for meaningful answer.

I was 100% on trump for example but I thought brexit would not happen because the uk elite has nothing to gain from it.

Quantum physics already kills determinism in that sense since random things happen at the quantum level, but that doesnt proof free will.

If determinism was right then how do you have any right to assume you exist and can make truth claims and have any basis for knowledge at all.

No, collapse theories arent very popular anymore.
Almost all popular, including the most popular, interpretation is detministic.
Just because you can't predict what you will see from an experement does not mean it is not deterministic, it is statistically deterministic and both possible events happen you only get to experience one.

Of course argument from popularity and argument to authority aren't very convincing alone but it at least shows where theoretical physicists stand.

The collapse theories assert additional ideas not supported by the math. This happened because the discoverers of quantum theory could not understand what was happening, or why.

>> No.13727374

>>13727020
That does not follow unless you are arguing from the position the whole world is an illusion, in which case free will would make no difference.

If you assume the world you experience is somewhat related to the real world then mostly coherent thoughts are an evolutionary advantage.

>> No.13727447

You can OP. Look into remote viewing and also hellenistic astrology (zodiacal releasing in particular). Materialist cucks will write this stuff off but Im sure you have more sense than they do.

>> No.13727479

As human beings capable of rational thought and self-reflection, we imagine ourselves to have "free will," which makes us distinct from inanimate objects and animals. We believe we are masters of our own destinies, because we can choose to conform our actions to our desires (we can "do what we want").

However, if our choices are determined by our desires, then the freedom of our choices really depends on whether our desires are "free" in the first place, doesn't it? If we follow the origin of our desires to its base level, we inevitably end up at a source of action that is external to our conscious self, i.e. something we do not choose. For example, I choose to eat this sandwich because I'm hungry. But why am I hungry? Because a lack of nutrients in my body has sent a chemical signal to my brain, triggering it to want to eat. Is my choice to eat this sandwich a free one, if it is ultimately caused by biochemical events outside of my control?

A similar analysis could be applied to any chain of action and desire a person could have. Man is not truly free because he is slave to desires he has no control over; he cannot will what he wills, and thus is no more special or different from any other object in the universe.
