who /slowreader/ here?
I generally spend from 3 to 5 minutes just reading one full page.

I think the problem is if you find the material interesting or not. If I find something engrossing I can read and it feels like I'm going fast but when I find something boring it takes ages to read it to completion.

I used to read very quickly, my parents cut off the book fund and sent me to the library, turns out I am terrible at returning books and perpetual fines meant I often could not take books out, then I moved out of the family home so money was far from plentiful. The choice was to read less or read slower, so I started to force myself to read slowly, to savor and consider every word I read, both individually and in contexts, over time my reading speed has more or less fallen into roughly the speed of speech, which has had some pleasant side effects since the way I read has translated over to conversation. I mostly enjoy the slow reading, the only real downside is that it has been at least a decade since I have had to worry about book spending and I just buy any book I want to read when I come across it, my back log is massive, my problem has reversed.

I also have ADD, not for treatment by pills though you do occasionally hear good things I have never tried them. It could just be a different neurological makeup as well since "ADD" is extremely common in the ENFP and ENTP personality types. Also...

I'm usually /speed/ and sometimes do my research while on amphetamine,
but lately I've been reading Bakhtin in English and since some of the semantics (mostly in the roots of words) are totally gone in the translation I have to read it in English and Russian parallel.
So those 100 pages are taking a third sitting today, and since i'm exhausted from splitting logs all day, they will have to take a forth.

Still, a pretty good read.

Get an e-reader, anon. You can mark and instantly look up words in the dictionary. Don't get the jewish kindle, find one that you like that supports epubs. You can read this way any book in the world for free.

It's pretty comfy learning a new language with ebooks.

I was diagnosed with it when I was a kid, but I don't think I have it. I was bored and didn't pay attention at school because it was too easy. So many kids are misdiagnosed with it, maybe even you.

Trying to read William Faulkner's The Sound And The Fury he doesn't use comas or punctuation for around 10 pages. Have no clue what's going on. Reading the stream of concious exasperates me. Can I join the small brain crew?

Not yet Anon. If you still have problems with Faulkner after you've read more literature (especially stuff harder than his), only then can you claim you're in the small brain crew.

Depends on the book. War and Peace took me a little over 3 minutes per page. Reading Wuthering Heights currently and its about 1 minute 30 seconds per page. Some books are harder to read than others. Some books have more words per page than others.
