How shitty of a school do you think OP goes to? Evola and Guenon aren't some super secret thinkers no one knows about. I learned about Evola in a very left wing university program.

American philosophy professors tend to be pretty ignorant of the continental and more esoteric schools of philosophy. It actually doesn't surprise me that a left-wing department would address Evola. They're one of the few groups with motive to respond.

I think perhaps they only do it in top tier private universities. McDonalds is very high end over in Europe, most can't afford it. We are truly blessed with prosperity and freedom in the United States of America.

As far as job placement and earnings go people with only a philosophy degree are like #50 on the list of the most common 200 or so majors. Above chemistry, biology, psychology, and history. All of which are more popular. Plus it's the best degree for law school if you're into that.
It's not petroleum engineering but philosophy is hardly the worst choice to make economically.

For a lot of liberal arts, it is what you make of it I think. I've met some truly brilliant people in philosophy, English and psych classes but for every ambitious, intelligent, creative person there are five lazy dimwits coasting through the course because they know they can get away with it. I consider psych a liberal art because although it employs the scientific method most of the theoretical underpinnings and conclusions they come to are completely up to interpretation and dependent on the perspective of whoever is making the argument.

What you're saying is interesting though. I'd be curious as to the population they sampled and where they ended up working. I know some business/philosophy people who ended up working at finance firms. The law school thing also makes sense. Would you have a source for your stats?

I was wrong about chemistry I guess, but still. There are quite a few worse options than philosophy.

I'm thinking about this and I figure it may be a bit misleading. You have to take into consideration differences in unemployment percentage here as well. Philosophy and English and so on might pay about the same as a Biology major, but I would guess that you'd be much more hard-pressed to find work as a sole Philosophy major than a Bio one.
