I will always have a place in my heart for Jesus Walks in Belfast.

when Jesus comes through Belfast
he spends his wisdom dear
And when his name is spoken
he makes as not to hear

He keeps well back in company
and shuts his fuckin mouth
and when he can he does his trade
a measure further south

When Jesus walks in Belfast
He keeps his cap pulled low
his step away he quickens
and those returning slow

He'd have a merry welcome
if he should take the whim
to ask the sods he suffered for
to suffer more of him.

Roastie Toastie feeling sad
Can’t get no more dick from Chad
No beta will pay her rent
For Roastie Toastie’s snatch is spent

Hit the wall at lightning speed
Thinking you had what you need
Coke and wine and BBC
But Roastie Toastie couldn’t see

Now you look three times your age
Filled with Roastie Toastie rage
Spamming “incel” on the net
Thinking that is how you’ll get

Meaning that you never had
Getting double drilled by Chad
Roastie Toastie feeling bad
Shoulda listened to your dad

Roastie Toastie is a whore
Food for cock is what she's for
Dick and balls she swallows whole
Nothing more than a big hole

'Men are jerks' is what she thinks
Roastie toastie twat sure stinks
Passed around like an old sock
"Cause Roastie Toastie's job is cock

She had goals and even dreams
All that died in her late teens
Now she's old and salt ensues
Blaming men is her excuse

Roastie Toastie looks around
Families and kids abound
Living life and having fun
Roastie Toastie's nearly done

Roastie Toastie no more thrills
She decides to get some pills
Two at most the label read
But Roastie Toastie wants to sleep

I do, depending on the particulars of how the irony is modulated or inflected--though it's mostly for reasons of decorum that I don't use it except in quotations, and that is because the prestige of decorum is much higher than people are usually aware, something I must have noticed mostly from people's reactions to my father. I happen to have a certain in-law whose way with it is never sufficiently serious to convince me that race is subject important enough to him for private brooding on it, and even playing him back in my head can make me laugh. This is not to mention that almost everyone with at least half a brain takes a shine to listeners over lookers, black metropolitans particularly: "Oh I can tell Anon is rolling his eyes like 'shut the fuck up you bitch as nigga'". Most kino is the archaic "nigrah" pronunciation, used to splendid effect in more than a few 60s movies that take place in whatever region of the South that "Southren" was also apparently used.

In the Airplane Over the Sea is the /mu/ equivalent of Infinite Jest--a generally agreed upon masterpiece, with legitimate complaints from some corners, but which has been buried so deep in irony and meta-irony and post-irony and so on and so on that it has lost any real meaning in an of itself, to the point that almost no-one on /mu/ has actually listened to it, and it only continues to exist by pure memetic energy. So, it's enjoyable, because it should have ended like all stories end when Anon brings 4chan to real life--embarassment. But in accidentally slipping up, and making the most defining /mu/ joke, he accidentally has one of the most normal and innocent experiences humanly possible. That it's trite and cliche is what makes the story surprising and novel. He escaped by making the same joke everybody makes and which should, by definition, keep you from ever leaving.

>Thomas Pynchon Presents: The REAL Unaboomer Manifesto

Hi, Thomas Pynchon here, also known as The Guy who wrote at least 3 really long books that aren’t worth reading. When I’m not walking around New York City with my shithead great grand nephew buying him the latest V-Box or whatever (back in my day, we had to wait four weeks for Trystero to deliver a Captain Racism doll and we’d have to use nothing but our imagination to have fun with it (That and of course the three variations of the n-word that would play when you squeezed his amputated legs (By the n-word I meant Nigger))).
Anyway, like you said, when I’m not wasting my fortune from my very successful writing career on my ungrateful family or smoking a Big Fat Joint in my bachelor pad, you like to reminisce on when I, Thomas Pynchon, became an anarcho primitivist for a week. It all started when you ran into this guy, Teddy Something, at the University of Michigan in the late 60s. you was trying to score some acid off of some of the cooler kids, when you quite literally ran into this Ted cat.
“My papers!”
“Let me help you with that”, you offered, noticing the complex equations and symbols scrawled across the sheets, “I really am sorry. you was looking for some cool kids to buy drugs off, but it's clear you are a math nerd and therefore not useful to me. Although, you am really trying to get some mathy stuff into my next novel, that would really have the critics going bananas...”
“I don’t have time for this. Please just hand me those papers.”
“Now hold on, what's this? These aren’t standard nerd equations.”
With my background as an engineer at the yoyo factory, you was able to tell that Teddy here was planning on building a bomb.
“You know, if you write me a couple of math jokes for my novel, I’m willing to forget everything you just saw here.”
“*sigh* How about send you them in the mail when you have some more time.”
“It’s a deal!”, you outstretched my hand and BZZT zapped him with a classic buzzer hidden in my palm. “Haha, got ya. This baby is the most powerful buzzer you can get!”
He walked grumpily away.
“What’s the matter, you don’t like new technology?” I shouted.

an anecdote, I had a group of friends who recently went to Chicago for fun, one of them is a 4chan edgelord who I sincerely hope sees this. They all went to see The Bean/Cloud Gate, he loudly scoffed at them and complained, went to see the Chicago Art Museum instead. He recounts this aspect often, with pride.

This guy tries to put Daugters and Death Grips on at dinner parties. He leaves a sticky note on his constantly-locked bedroom door telling people to text him, not knock. He writes "Nigger" in chalk all over the house. He is constantly giving sidelong knowing glances, he is constantly annoyed at everyones lack of taste. He wants a slampig art-slut tan GF like the ones in Overwatch and Rainbow 6. One time a roommate was trying to do a puzzle and he hid the puzzle pieces in random places. really elitist. true to an extent but the second half of the last paragraph, culminating in dismissing people who haven't been to Art Cities is embarrassing. Other stuff like offhandedly canning Metallica is really grating too.

An anecdote, I have a group of friends who recently went to Chicago for fun, one of them is a 4chan edgelord who I sincerely hope reads this.
(Or maybe 4chan isn't "underground" enough and you have to go to "altchans" and "discords" to feel special) They all went to go take pictures at The Bean/Cloud Gate, he loudly scoffed at them for being muddleheaded. Pissed, he separated from the group and went to see the Chicago Art Museum alone instead. Later that night, still alone, he went into a steakhouse with no reservation wearing black jeans, a black t shirt and a black beanie. Got pissed when the waiters acted like this was strange. He recounts this anecdote often, with pride.

This guy tries to put Daugters and Death Grips on at dinner parties. He leaves a sticky note on his constantly-locked bedroom door telling people to text him, not knock. He writes "Nigger" in chalk all over his apartment. He is constantly giving sidelong knowing glances. He is constantly annoyed at everyone's lack of taste. He wants a slampig art-slut-type tan GF like the ones in Overwatch and Rainbow 6. He is Depressed and needs everyone to know. He messages city-art-scene-tier celebrities and band members on Instagram thinking he has a chance with them. He frequently makes 11+ hour drives to LA for Goth festivals because he feels like the "vibe" there is authentic, in contrast to his own city. One time a roommate was trying to do a puzzle and he hid the puzzle pieces in random places. I have talked with him extensively and he shares the mentality of this type of DailyReminder post.

I hope you're reading this, A.

Degneracy exists, but not as a matter of form. True Beauty cannot be distinguished from True Virtue cannot be distinguished from True Love cannot be distinguished from True Mercy cannot be distinguished from True Justice cannot be distinguished from True Wisdom cannot be distinguished from True Good cannot be distinguished from Truth Itself. No art can be called either good or beautiful which is not moral. To the extent that a work is moral, it is more beautiful than a more skillfully made work which is less moral. Therefore, though the aesthetic form of a created work are essential to the clarity and efficacy of a work, they can compensate for a lack of morality in the work. Therefore, no aesthetic style or form can be considered as moral or immoral without consideration for the use of the style or form. To say that any style or form is degenerate in an of itself, it must be demonstrated that that style or form is incapable of producing or aiding any moral work. Degenerate art in this sense then is not found by style or form, but by the moral direction of the work--does it serve a moral end, or an immoral one? If it serves an immoral end, it is literally degenerating. If it serves a moral end, it is then regenerative. After all this, you might say that this argument is useless, because morality cannot be agreed upon--that as much as some abstract proposal of those True states may leave them indistinguishable, as we live they are clearly distinguishable. On the one hand, that is true, but on the other, it is this apparent failing of the argument which is its greatest strength. Whichever morality one holds, this argument can be used to examine all art, and to judge that art as it relates to that moral perspective. Although it is not expressed in this manner, you already see this method at work in the radical and censoring zeal of today's inter-sectional cultural critics. Rather than criticizing them for judging art wrongly, recognize that they are judging art by the only sane methodology; if you are offended by them, hopefully you are now able to see where you are not differing simply in your appreciation of art, but in your sense of morality. Hopefully too, in recognizing this, you can piece together a sharper understanding of your own moral position by examining the art you prefer in this manner. If you presume you are moral, and the art you like is moral, then an evaluation of art through this moralizing lens will reveal to you what your exact and nuanced moral principles really are.

Getting hit in the head with a bat really highlights just how fallible the brain is. You see this stripe of torn skyline pasted all over your vision in RGB colors only for it all to peel away like paint over nothing; you hear every slogan you’ve ever heard all in this one sonic boom and your skull gets shattered and you feel this strange, insatiable urge to claw out the debris, like when you want to bite down on a tootsie pop or shake the water out of your ear, thinking to yourself, “if I’m going to have this hole in my head, it had at least better be a pretty clean one.”

I fell down onto the wet grass then rolled up towards the sun, hoping it’d melt my eyes down into my esophagus. I wanted to huck them back up like molten egg yolks into the face of whoever’d clubbed me, but I couldn’t manage to get so much as a single word out to the people starring down at me from above. It was grey outside, and blotchy, like there was someone holding a magnet in front of my television screen. I’d never been so angry yet quiet at the same time before.

The doctor told me that I was extremely lucky. In his own words, he said I had “the thickest skull he’d ever seen,” “an incredibly thick skull,” and “hey, nurse, check out this guy’s thick fucking skull; holy shit, can you believe it?” and so on. I don’t know. They wrapped me up, covering the top half of my head and my swollen eye, giving me instructions and materials and things to do while I laid there on the hospital bed. When I asked them what hit me, they said some kid had been swinging a bat around outside of the cages and lost his grip. The father paid for my treatment no questions asked, while the boy left the bat beside my bed as an apology, made out of Aluminum, with orange paint like a soda can. Attached to it was a note from the father, containing contact information and an insistence that I was in their prayers.

So that was most of my weekend, gone. They told me not to go back to the batting cages until I healed up, but I hadn’t been planning to; thanks to the incident, I lacked the depth perception required to strike an incoming pitch anyways, so I stayed at home and threw balls up into the air instead, counting the seconds and hitting them on the way down towards a target I’d hung up on the back fence. You aren’t supposed to aim for the pitcher, but I didn’t actually play baseball for real, just batting. Once you’ve hit a home run—which is the ideal—the sport ceases to be interactive and starts to feel more like bowling or golf. All you have to do is call the pitch and from there on out it’s solo play.

I wore my cap over the bandages the following Monday, thinking it might help keep everything in place. The campus crowds were like asteroid fields. I’d missed Valentine’s day, but there were still honors kids handing out condoms, so it must not have been all that. A loud voice shouted “Yo!” from behind me; it was a big black guy named Stove, an old friend of mine. Not ‘Steve,’ Stove; I never knew why his parents named him that, but his dad sounded pretty hardcore, a real Booker T. lookalike according to his son. I’d never met him in person, but I went over to Stove’s house in high school once, and Stove made sure to show me the four-point constellation of bullet holes in his ceiling before turning on the pirated cartoons I’d brought him. He pointed to each dot in order and said “That’s when a kid said nigga in front of my dad, that’s when a kid said nigga in front of my dad, that’s when a kid said nigga in front of my dad, and that’s from when a kid said nigga in front of my dad.” He then added, “Comes with a lecture too.” I just replied with something like “Damn” and asked him if he was bothered by it, but he said, “I’m not offended, you just ain’t cool enough.” He wasn’t either though; I’dve bet all four kids were him.

Stove dropped his gaze under my bill. “So what up with the bandages Kakashi?”

“Batting accident,” I said, knocking on the bat. I wasn’t really sure why I had it on me.

“‘Be the ball,’ right?”

“You won’t be the last one to tell that joke.”

“Oh, I was the first?”

“Yeah actually.”

“Oh, I see then,” he said. He licked his teeth behind his lips and clicked. “So how’ve you been? Doin good? Gears still workin up there?”

“Doing pretty well,” I said, thankful he didn’t tap my head.

“Just checking in on people. Miss that poetry class, you know? Good times.”

They were. “Did your rap thing take off?”

“Yeah, I’ve been killin’ it on Soundcloud lately.” He splayed his hands out; “Hypnotize em!”

“Really now?”

“Yeah. You see those gnats over there?” he said, pointing to a cloud of bugs. He clapped his hands, and they all weaved through each other. “Gotta appreciate that.”

“Thought you weren’t in it for the fans.”

“No, it’s not about having them; it’s the biology, feel it.”

I smirked and shook my head. “I’m not really feeling it.”

He gave me a look. “Hey,” he said, leaning in.

“What?”

He looked both ways then put his palm up and whispered, “You wonna’ free condom, kid?”

I chuckled and hit him in the shoulder, then he stared laughing with his tongue between his teeth. When the wind picked up he wound down.

“Gotta get some, Cap!”

I let a smile out and said, “See you,” as he got a move on to beat the rain. I dipped into a nearby lecture hall before class started.

They're a feast to read, and sometimes they're really meant to be read aloud, performed, the speaker helping reduce the ungainliness and cumbersome text into something that flows. When well done, sentence length really shouldn't matter too much, so long as the tomes are buttressed by smaller clippy sentences that lead and prepare the reader to take the deep dive. I don't think Calvino could quite describe his cities in the same splendor if he broke up his sentences more. Even fights when done by Robert E Howard or Stephen Pressfield or even the DFW rook fight in IJ require a chunk of text devoted to the choreography. Some illustrations are these high-bandwidth, high pixel density type resolutions. I think it's more important to keep in mind the power of a big idea that takes time to explain and accept that sometimes reality is composed of large sentences. If we all had the time and energy we could perhaps approach a gleaming Hemingway or O'Hara cinema to our hyper effective texts, but what of the pleasure of reading? That's the one thing I can't really help you with. If you do not enjoy reading, if you do not enjoy feeling language do its things to you, I don't know what I could offer.

It can be done well and on rare occasions may even be a necessary approach but generally I find it pointless and needlessly hard to follow. The picture I responded to is an example of the latter imo.

Trying to use a string of analogies of analogies to references of a subject that can serve as a metaphor for a single aspect of a highly detailed situation often makes truly grasping the ideas hidden beneath the mess a tedious effort if it is all done in the span of a single sentence. If it is used to convey something sufficiently complex that could not be articulated otherwise then said effort at least feels rewarding. However, when it is used to laboriously describe something mundane like the black stains on a corrupt politician's wooden table, and then make a banal metaphor to the darkness of his soul, I feel rather cheated after finally deciphering the needlessly complicated sentence. I got nothing from navigating the gangrenous intestines of that bloated corpse of a sentence that couldn't have been written in a far more digestible manner.

When the author does this all book long because that is his style rather than a tool for communicating complex ideas, I want to take the book and bludgeon him to death with it. I'd do this not only to relieve my frustrations but to convey what it is like to read the book, and my dissatisfaction, in a manner far more powerful and succinct than the hopeless twat on the receiving end could ever hope to put into writing.

As for the pleasure of reading, that is dependant as much on the pleasing qualities of what is read as it is on the reader. When this style is used to convey otherwise inaccessible ideas I DO find it enjoyable. Otherwise it feels like the author is trying to layer on 20 different hues of paint, each unique and enjoyable on their own, until it all blends together in a thick, globby brown turd. Sure there's depth to it, and a lot of the individual little ideas that the author touches upon, but if not done correctly the end product is simply unpleasant.

24 yo American woman here. After I graduated from Wellesley I needed to find myself, and decided to forgo yoga training and travel the world and write about my experiences and the impact they have on my life. (I haven't been outside the country since I volunteered in Costa Rica for a week in during the summer in High School, where I learned how hard some people have it).

I've been all over Europe (s/o to Truow!) and I'm currently in Barcelona, where I love the incredible architecture, the breathtaking art history, the luscious music, the exquisite tapas, the vibrant nightlife and the chance to explore my sexuality with the interesting people I meet. The freedom is like nothing I've experienced before. Everybody should experience this, and I think there's no doubt that travel makes you a richer person.

I recently got this tattoo in cool parlor after clubbing in Kreuzberg (in Berlin) (this is me on a beach in Morocco), which I think defines the kind of character I want to be. It reminds me never to take things for granted because we all face challenges, and no matter how hard life can seem, you need to stay grounded.

I wrote the quick brown fox thing. It was basically a spontaneous composition written while fairly drunk. I tried to reign in the content so that it consistently referred back to the theme of a fox jumping over a dog.

Ive probably made like 50 posts along the same lines, for whatever reason people appreciated that one.

I think there are some fairly good ideas running through it, such as likening mankind's banishment from Eden to a man growing up and leaving his mother, then roaming the world over for a kind of enveloping comfort that cannot really be found.

I have heard this theme in Freud of course but it is present in a lot of literature and even folk songs (like Pretty Saro-- "fare thee well to my old mother... for Im going for to ramble this wide world... I saw many fair lovers, but I never saw mine... how I wished I was a turtledove, had wings and could fly, far away to my lover's lodgings I'd draw nigh, and there in her lilly white arms, I'd lay there all night")

There's plenty of middle ground between efficient yet barebones and labyrinthine prose. Dunsanian tier prose is about the most amount of meandering I feel is enjoyable for continuous reading.

I'll admit I find it interesting as an exercise (both in reading and writing) but as far as experiencing and deciphering what is written I find it laborious, especially if it is the predominant method of articulation throughout a lengthy work. I also find they rhythm of these types of sentences to be highly unpleasant, though that's more of a personal preference.

Anyone have those elaborate /biz/ posts that would tell a long tragic or homoerotic story only for it to end shilling some shit altcoin?

Just keep an eye on the posts. That's all I ask of you. Ignore /pol/ if you want but see what is posted on other boards under the same vein and file naming conventions.
