You need to read things and then have time to think about them with only yourself. It is difficult, I know. I have to distract myself with different things so I don't want to kill myself. It's usually not that extreme but I hate being alone with my thoughts if they wander. You absolutely need to be away from it. When I smoke my pipe I use that time to think. I don‘t know enough about conqueror‘s relationships with women to decide if that‘s true, but i guess it boils down to something similar. This rant will sound puerile and I cringe at posting it, but has anyone else noticed any of these things about which I am ranting. I can remember reading lots of 19th and 20th century literature in high school for class--atheistic existentialism, nihilism, absurdism, literary nonsense, etc. College and grad school curriculum has been way different. My main concern is that people reject or ignore everything people had to say in the 19th and 20th century and before, or they consider it very selectively. If I picked up a piece of literary fiction now, it would be focused on a person of color (this is fine...I loved erasure by percival everett and it had the right tones for me) [meanwhile someone is saying why mention it? let me explain] in some banal circumstance doing something unremarkable that has some peppy, positive, wholesome warm bullshit pablum to sell me on or some affirming message of teaching empathy.

In all seriousness, contemporary culture makes me scratch my head. It's almost as if there are people who labor under the delusion that if somehow we make everything anodyne and inoffensive that magically all of our problems will disappear that if we treat the symptoms that the malady will be cured. Suddenly, people won't be racist, xenophobic, self-centered, violent, cruel, selfish, jealous, petty, small, trivial, etc. People won't bully or beat and murder their spouses and all that jazz that gets people moist. If only we censored the worst of humanity, then magically it would disappear instead of becoming a festering, malignant problem. It would be tantamount to ordering your officers (you're the chief of police btw) to not report the crime of rape in statistics and then pretending that the crime ceased as a result.
