Friendly reminder that a bookcase full with pauper paperbacks makes any visitor to your place internally disgust with your cheapskate books. They are not telling you because of social norms, but you lose a lot of respect in the minds of other people. If you have people coming over, you had better hide your shit books and only have pic related for open display or better do not purchase toilet books at all.

Good post, OP. "Cover art" was the worst thing to happen to books. No images should be displayed anywhere in a book except where the author has provided them himself. Just look what they've done to Boehme's work. I happen to own the abomination that is pic related and every time I look at it I am viscerally repulsed.

I don't permit guests in my domicile. It's an easy policy to maintain because people rarely call at my door and on the offchance someone does I simply ignore their knocks.

And I don't believe in having too many possessions, I keep a bare minimum of books.

Reminder that in the 80s you could buy fake books to show off in your shelf. Excellent leather and paper with just empty pages. Whenever I see a bookshelf like the one posted by OP I think of those books and the sad people who bought them. A chaotic looking bookshelf it the mark of the patrician.
