I unironically believe there are more than one published author lurking in the board. No big names, probably, and some of them are from foreign countries. Some of them may have published novels or poetry. Some of them have published academic books. They lurk in here and post every now and then when the angsty teens stop opening noob-philosophy or noob-theology threads. They make long, beautiful, quality posts. While you are watching, the contemporary version of letter exchanges between authors is secretly happening under your eyes.

Yep sold a grand total of two copies in over a year. I mainly wrote the book as sort of a joke, then thought it'd be funny to self publish it, and I figured I'd learn the whole self publishing process while I was at it, see if I like it and if it's worth pursuing further. It isn't. Currently trying to get a book traditionally published.

Yes! I self-published. It did not go well. The problem with self-publishing is you basically have to reinvent the publishing industry on your own. So you have to do a lot of research and learn a lot of things that you don't know. And you don't know what you don't know, which makes it much harder.

Before you self-publish understand that there are two things you can't do for yourself:
1. Editing. Not just copy editing and proof reading. Developmental editing. So important.
2. Marketing. Your book will die a quiet death. With a publisher, it will at least get in the hands of a bookstore.

Getting an agent is easier and has better results.

I am a published author in a "foreign country". I published an artsy-fartsy pomo novel, hoping that it might create a spark, and my intention was to carry the torch into the future by taking it over from a trail-blazer author in our literary polysystem, by writing an explicitly homage novel to his work, but didn't work as planned,
