Originally the "alt-right" had no resemblance to the contemporary definition.

It used to be just a term for "alternative right wing movements, predominantly on the internet". Just an umbrella for all the right wing ideologies that were not represented in the Conservative party. So by definition it was never coherent, because it wasn't supposed to be one ideology. The only shared traits were the internet humor and them organizing on politics discussion forums on the internet. And it was only cohesive in so far as they shared the common interest of gaining platforms to share their ideas and participate in politics.

That umbrella encompassed probably a pretty large group. Hundreds of thousands around the globe would be my guess.

But once the "alt-right" became a popular discussion topic and the media put their spin on it, just in time for the elections. It got defined as:

I agree that demographics are shifting in the West, but it's far from the level of being the demographic "emergency" or "genocide" that some groups are claiming it is. I don't remember where I read this statistic, but I've heard that there are still 900 million people of primarily European descent still out there in the world, and even if that number is lower, it's still a fuckton. Even if demographic changes will continue on the exact same tragectory that they are now (which seems highly unlikely), it will still take centuries for the last white person to be born.

Everyone will have in-group preferences to certain degrees, I don't think that's the problem. The problem is when people use these preferences to shut themselves off from other groups, or even worse, start oppressing them. It doesn't really help the in-group in any meaningful way, since it makes them look unfavourable in the eyes of other groups and forces them to rely on themselves, and also makes life unnecessarily harder for those people who aren't in the in-group. I don't care if you prefer hanging around white people, just don't use that as an excuse to then start saying "black people are nigger" behind closed doors.

Genes do play a part, you can't deny this, but even more important is language, religion, social attitudes, etc. That's why Germans, Anglos, Irishmen and Frenchmen - who had not once in their entire existence considered themselves one people - all ended up becoming "White Americans" when they moved to America, since they all ended up sharing English, American Christianity, American culture, and so on. This naturally extends to black people, Asian people, etc. A black American's behaviour can be attributed to the fact that they're a *black American*, not that they're black, if you catch my drift.
