I've got a five page philosophy paper. Does God exist? I can't think of an intro or any topics or main ideas to cover.

Supposing you are talking about some god, problem of evil is a good choice. It has nothing to do with the authors mentioned tho.

But you could try the ontological argument, as Descartes used one such argument. I don't know if Aquinas did, but Kierkegaard certainly didn't.

Nope. Bad things must happen so that good things may happen. For the same reason, ugly people exist (so that beautiful people may exist)

>> No.1301867

>>1301864
but in a fair world, bad things would only happen to bad people

>> No.1301878

>>1301867
That's not fair at all, because the concept of a "good" or "bad" person is completely subjective. There is no such thing as an intrinsincly evil person. To many, Osama Bin Laden is a great man. And from his point of view, it is America that is evil.

A negative and a positive cancel each other out. If America thinks Bin Laden is evil but he does not, then neither are right. If Bin Laden thinks America is evil but they think they are good, then neither are right.

There is pain in the world, yes, but only necessary pains.

>> No.1301905

>>1301878
why is pain necessary?

>> No.1301922

OP you might wanna consider stupid shit like this in your paper.

>>1301864
>>1301878

If you want more stupid shit like that, I suggest you read Plantinga too for the free will defense. Of course, on Wikipedia you can find other common (and equally dumb) criticisms.

GTFO

>> No.1301937

A lot of theologists say that pain is needed to really feel pleasure and seeing what's good and what's bad in the world. I think that's bullshit but yeah.

>> No.1301940

pain is our body telling us that there is something wrong and we should probably stop doing what we are doing at that moment

>> No.1301964

Problem of evil

(look up the tale of the 12 officers)

Pascals wager.

Find some arguments for god, analyse and deconstruct them, then refute.

Thats what i would do anyway.
