i read the book, and thought meh. but then my friend had an audio version of kerouac reading it, and i fucking loved it

It gets better. I was pretty bored at first two but it definitely grows up. I found myself saying stuff like "Good 'ol Sal Paradise!" to myself when he would get into mischief.

I just had a fucking grilled cheese sandwich, whole wheat sliced bread, mozzarella cheese, and I used a stick of butter. I'm still salivating and it's been about half an hour since I ate the damn thing.

I didn't really like it. It felt more like 'Sal and Dean's Wacky, Disjointed Adventures Across America' rather than the gritty expose of drugs, sex and jazz the book's blurb led me to believe.

Jack Kerouac helped try to cover up the murder of a gay man by one of his friends in NYC in the 40's, disposing of the murder weapon (a knife) in a storm drain. He didn't admit his involvement until brought in and questioned by the police, when he further shamed himself by immediately ratting on his friend in order to save his own ass.

Kerouac, what an asshole.

I gave up halfway through and actually threw the book across the room.

It's shit.

Thanks /lit/, I was genuinely considering getting this despite being underwhelmed by the first few pages. If nothing actually happens and it's just chronicling an American's infatuation with American-ness, fuck it.

I think Sal and Dean should have just admitted their feels for each other and fucked.

My dad got me to read this book, gave up halfway through. I still don't know what he saw in it.
