People who read Hegel are two types.

The first are the cult like figures that get totally overpowered by his writings and thinking and get subsumed into reproducing his work ad infinitum. They are usually histrionic personaities, or hysterics that cannot stand the idea that Hegel cannot be true about everything.

The second are the post-Hegelians, they respect Hegel as a thinker of his time and have gone through the dialectical system and come out of it, while recognizing his limitations, these are healthy individuals with a strong sense of reality, see Bataille.

He's a terrible obscurantist. His ideas are often interesting, but sadly, you're better off getting to 2nd or 3rd year of uni (some decent uni obviously) and having your professor explain his ideas to you and discuss them with you than actually reading him all the way through on your own. It's not only the case with Hegel, but nonetheless, he quite definitely fits into that category.
