OP here: does anyone know any examples of literature in which the monomyth/journey of the hero is represented not in a fantastic way (like the LOTR, Star Wars etc) but takes place in the real world?

Hero's Journey is a weak imitation of the descent into Hades by various Hellenic gods and prophets/Poet Philosophers.
