No, I find reading in my native language to be a frustrating slog (with few exceptions). I much prefer reading in English. The few times I committed to reading a book translated into my language I ended up hating the work.

If the original version of the book is English, I will read it in English.

If the original version of the book is French, then I will read it in French.

Learning German at the moment.

But when it's a foreign language, therefore neither English or French, then I will read it in French, which is the language I understand best as a native french speaker from Quebec.

EVERYTHING I do on the internet is in English though, which is sad, but it is what works best for me.

Why would I stop? Many decent books have been written in Portuguese. I'm currently finishing Os Lusíadas. Not a fan of the medieval history bits but overall it's been a good experience.

I read mostly in my own language.
My major is English so I read the books by English writers in original to improve it. But I can't find English books in my shithole country so I rarely read in English.
Also, there are no translations to my language for many important works because I live in a shithole country. For example, the only book by Nietzsche is Thus Spoke Zarathustra.

I respect my language and there's no fucking chance I'd be able to read some more difficult books in English.

On my excel file, where I list all the books I have read recently enough to rate, I have 47 books in Dutch and 20 foreign books. It still feels like I'm only getting started on Dutch lit though. There is just an unbelievable amount of books out there.

I like reading books written in dialects, and reading in my language also broadens my vocabularity.

Of course. Also you should always read books in the original language. There is absolutely no reason to not know english+german+french+your native language. You cover a huge amount of important literary works with these 3. Later in life i plan to learn latin and russian, covering the entirety of relevant literature

I have some Kirghiz novellas, and they were translated from the Russian for example. But I mostly noticed it with Japanese literature. (Chinese not so much, strangely enough.)

What books are you reading? I haven't had any issues finding translations of any moderately important historical works by actual experts in latin or greek for example.

Also, I don't know anyone around me or online who reads Hindi Literature, so I don't read it too. The Hindu nationalists in my neighborhood get pissed at people for not reading Hindi books, but they themselves don't read any Hindi literature except the religious texts like Mahabharata, Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas, Gita, et cetera
