>He thinks of himself as just a “worker,” however – an intellectual worker. And he strives to be a responsible one.

Do you agree with Chomsky’s self-characterization? As a writer, do you also consider yourself an intellectual worker? I must say that I also feel a great deal of solidarity with the working class.

>> No.12482624

I do agree with the self characterization.
I don’t see myself as an intellectual, but I would like to channel my later year efforts into something more artistic.
I would love to escape this country and see Europe, but I feel somewhat responsible for this messed up government, and that I must stay put and help bring it down somehow

He doesn't exchange his labor for his needs in the same way a worker does. I never understood academias blatant dishonesty regarding class warfare. Chomsky is a pretty enlightening writer and he does it in an accessible way so I still like him.

My father is an "intellectual worker." He prunes trees as an art form while simultaneously directing all of the work that goes on around him. He has been doing this for 45 years, and has lost six inches of height due to spinal compression. Chomsky is a swine and a hypocrite who wouldn't know an honest day's work if it slapped him across the face. I would spit on him if I met him

He's neither a worker nor an intellectual, never having had an original thought or done an honest day's work in his life.

I don't think he's ever done any true research. In the old days, he would have been a country schoolmaster or something. Not among the highest echelons of that occupation, but around the middle. That's provided he's capable of learning Latin and Greek and improving his knowledge of history.

As to work- no more than any liberal arts academic does, and less than most stem ones do regularly.

It's not insanity when you consider that everyone gets a vote therefore - to varying degrees - everyone is responsible. My Grandmother told me about Reagan being elected and how incredulous it was, we aren't United Statesians. Only in America isn't a meme, but now we are in post-irony and the satires have turned to propaganda for the intended target because nobody knows if it's satire anymore. Things are too obvious they say, and they are interpreting the same as its diametrically opposed opposite. Postmodernism was a mistake, perhaps modernism was a mistake also.
