I do agree with the self characterization.
I don’t see myself as an intellectual, but I would like to channel my later year efforts into something more artistic.
I would love to escape this country and see Europe, but I feel somewhat responsible for this messed up government, and that I must stay put and help bring it down somehow

I don't think he's ever done any true research. In the old days, he would have been a country schoolmaster or something. Not among the highest echelons of that occupation, but around the middle. That's provided he's capable of learning Latin and Greek and improving his knowledge of history.

As to work- no more than any liberal arts academic does, and less than most stem ones do regularly.
