>Once Chopin concentrated exclusively on music he deliberately turned his back on anything remotely resembling ideological speculation. Not only did he read very little, one is almost tempted to believe that he ceased to read at all. In any case, the fact that only two books were discovered amongst his belongings in the apartment at the Place Vendôme after his death, at least gives credence to such a supposition.

>The two books in question were Voltaire’s Dictionnaire Philosophique, still open at the article on Taste, and an anthology of popular Polish poetry. The latter was a simple school textbook

Everyone's taking her out of context, bitching at her in shirtty clickbait articles about how she's either anti-intellectual or RACIST and CLASSIST for suggesting people could even be so rich or privileged as to own 30 books (the latter argument which I find an insulting argument since I buy most of my shit from goodwill for 50 cents a pop and just pirate the rarer shit).

But Kondo says her personal limit is 30, for her, and that different people are going to have a different limit. She basically just says to not hoard books that mean nothing to you and which you're not going to read, and instead give them away. Which is fine.

A few hours ago I watched the first half of episode 3 (or 4, whichever it was with the laughable stereotype gay couple). Marie Kondo is an illiterate boob who prays to the spirit of the house while western bugmen lap it up. I think her message is good but it is being misinterpreted in front of her face and she's okay with it because money.

More like, a lot of people with lots of book feel it's an attack on them personally.
Some seem to have used books as a replacement to having a personality/interesting life or the have books out of vanity and show off their supposed intelligence.
Books take up space if you live in a small apartment, they can be expensive if you buy new and if you move, you've got to spend more money moving them.

>> No.12428679

Yeah that's sorta what I meant. In response to Marie I saw someone say you should accumulate books and surround yourself with "knowledge". Which really means buy a bunch of books you'll never actually read but you'll be surrounded by """knowledge""" which means you're interesting and smart and not a boring, empty, consumerist

>> No.12428680

She's correct, but this isn't any secret. It's common sense. 30 is a general number; the point is that, as you get older, you should necessarily be weeding out the things from your life that are no longer valuable to you, and keeping the things that are the most valuable to you. This is how maturity works.
