How unfeasible is it to read college textbooks and educate myself

Which textbooks or subject are you interested in learning?

Museology. The museum here has a fuckyuge library, and they do have museology text books. I’ve read Native American and ecology shit there before. The only problem is I probably can’t check out the books, but it’s not really a problem.

I think that what you want is possible the problem is you don't get a degree... for you know a job

The value of college is networking and what it signals to others, you can do much better than textvooks if you actually want to learn

>> No.12319864

dude please please go to actual school

Besides, textbooks are extremely overpriced for their value

The only thing valuable about college is fucking all the Asian TAs in your STEM classes for an A.

You have to be one in a million to actually do it right and get something out of it. It’s possible though.

Its perfectly possible but humanities textbooks are fucking retarded. Just some stupid industry to keep minor academics busy anthologizing and boring everyone with their mediocre commentary.

>> No.12320241

It's feasible. University is as much a tool for class bottlenecking as it is for education. The exception is STEM. But there are shitloads of free lectures and courses online, ie:

haha yeah bro totally

Like you wont be an authority or hired based on self teaching so its not feasible in that sense but if youre just doing for personal growth than sure

I dont get this meme, do I have to go back to school every time I have a new interest in something slightly academic?

>> No.12320320

I've been doing this for a long time now. Basically, it's possible. but it comes with some drawbacks:
It needs a crazy amount of discipline not to leave a book halfway through. you have no feedback and no pushing. so quite naturally it's possible to leave your book midway through.
secondly, there is no feedback as to if you are actually learning the stuff. this happens quite often. You would just go with it without really understanding all that much.
finally, as mentioned before, college is a huge game of signaling. You might be able to educate yourself, but the signaling is not there.
But overall I think it's a really good thing to do, and one of the best uses of free time. It is also very fulfilling imo

Stats, Bio, and Calc. It's easier than you exepct hence why I can respect your incredulity. A quick Google search and you can find their blogs and personal sites and know what they're interested in thereby structuring your approach around that.

What about you doing some questions after?

Yeah I want to start a museum and someone recommended reading on museum design. So I’ll be self employed, basically. I used to volunteer at a museum but left because of creative differences kek

College students barely read the textbooks so I'd say you have a good shot

Learning Sanskrit today: 3 years of undergraduate, 5 years of graduate school

This. People who wanted to be lawyers used to just study the law books front to cover and then take the bar. You could even become a judge doing that shit. Not long ago, either.

Would watching online lectures help?
