Sad thing is that no women that is actually into acadmics (and who has any srrious aptitude for it) would look/dress like this. Sure they might be super hot, but all the ones Ive ever met (which is few) dress a bit more conservatively (which is still nice, but not as cute).

I'm not OP, but I need this, I don't even care if it's just advice on how to meet a /lit/ friend, I just want somebody to talk about literature. I've already gone to a book club and it was an awful experience, I've spoken with friends about books and they always have the most basic view of every subject imaginable, not to mention they won't ever read any of the books I recommend, even when it's THEM that ask ME. I seriously don't know what to do, is it that literature is not meant to be discussed about in real life? I know for certain people like you guys exist, how come I've never met you? It's actually pretty easy once you have the right mindset.

The only thing people care about is what you can do for them. When you see a cute quiet girl reading a book, her aesthetic and looks automatically make you feel entranced and invested. You have to keep in mind that you almost certainly don't do the same thing for her. If you're an intellectual guy, you're probably physically not very aesthetic or attractive. So, you have to have some other way of engendering investment from this girl.

Just saying "Hey, my name is [blank], what are you reading there?" does absolutely nothing on that front. How is that statement supposed to make her feel romanced/excited/invested? You might know all about your own internal positive traits, but she certainly does not. You need to be able to clearly SHOW your positive traits.

It's not so hard to do this. If you're confident and outgoing, you could for instance brush against her hand as you turn the page of her book and admire the text, at least that does SOMETHING to engender some sort of emotion in her.

You could also say something like: "you know, you remind me of the comfort of a library, a field of ochre flowers, and my favourite parts of autumn" at least that has some poetry and emotion behind it.

BOTTOM LINE: this girl knows literally nothing about you, you're not good-looking enough to swoon her on looks alone, so you better make her feel romanced/excited somehow.

If that kind of shit works there's only one explanation: after a history of tragedy and pain, this woman decided to take her own life and visited the library to think of a plan. Then anon came by, and with only a few words he effortlessly showed her that yes, there was someone in this world in a much more desperate state than her. Her mind shattered and moved by her last shred of empathy for humanity, she allowed him to have dry sex with her.

just read stuff you like until it becomes part of you, until it gives you a new vision of life in general. then, read what she reads and just give your opinion about it, based on that new vision. that will create a field for discussion, and a link will be created. it takes time tho... thats what she wants, all the time and energy you put into giving her attention. they feed on that. its the price to pay for it, so you either work on it or just give it up and put that energy to something else.

Hey dude I can empathise with you, when I was browsing a couple other boards when I was younger I had the same issue. I'd call out for advice and people would give the most clickbait-esque answers. So intoxicating I probably endured about 2 whole years of terrible advice because I was so desperate to get any kind of real insight to how popular-folk make it happen. Since then I've had a couple of open opportunities to do things but I've turned them down. You're probably like me, vaguely autistic, or at least a schizoid, but don't fret. Don't take any thing to loosen up in front of people (unless they're drinking in which case match them), it'll just make you more conscious of how you present yourself with the 'aid'.
You might not see it quite yet, but these people you're chasing, aren't actually that 'engaging', in so far as you don't actually need to try. You know why you're self-conscious so you're already way more perceptive than the majority.

A couple of things first. Root out as many insecurities as humanly possible. Don't block shit off because it's hard (getting moderately fit) and conversely don't beat yourself up (blame your big ears or something). The more insecurities you block out the less they'll race through your mind as you try and do simple things like say 'Hey'.
This is why it's important, you need to practice pauses in conversation to lure people in, when you're at a pause you're more liable to fuck up whilst she/he/fuckyou responds. Find a haircut that suits you, clothes, colours, fragrances, get anal about it, the more anal you are the more sure-of-yourself you'll be. Shave your shit beard. Don't wear trainers, wear a watch. Read about body language and study it. Get good at reading people. Just sit somewhere publicly observe. 80% of your first impression is non-verbal. Why do some guys have it easier? Presence. Then it gets tricky, once you have introduced yourself make every statement in the first 5 minutes a succession of observations and then intensely vague comments, she'll retract from focusing on your conversation and focus on 'you', suicidal? Absolutely. By now you should excel at reading someone and show signs of relaxation whilst you slowly divulge about yourself. What do you talk about? It doesn't matter. So long as it's not rehearsed, it doesn't matter. If you said 'this library reminds me of some of the old Sonic the hedgehog games' whilst looking good and keeping a solidly confident foundation you could probably pull it off. Don't overdo it. All that being said, I'm not christian myself, but honestly 99% of these chicks are fucking dull and will fuck your life up because you didn't prioritise yourself. Hope that helps.

You don't get one
Word of advice, don't go looking for a girl who you can share "deep" conversations with. You're not gonna find a chick who wants to talk about fucking Plato, Hegel, Dosto, or Joyce with you. Look for a girl who you find agreeable enough to tolerate. You don't have to have the exact same interests, but if shes kind and nice and at least pretends to listen to you then you're good.
Leave the philosophy and literature for the guys. You're gonna end up disappointed when you try and talk to a girl the way you can talk to guys.

I have no social skills. I had a very isolated childhood, movie-tier isolation stuff, with an overbearing, manipulative and crazy mother and all. I'm in my 20s now and I still read plenty every day, out of habit. But I am extremely bad at interacting naturally with others. I can carry a conversation but I am unable to read any mood or understand any sort of social cues. I always go to the library and book stores and there are frequently cute girls but I just stand there staring ahead once anyone comes into the aisle. I go from legitimately searching for a book to trying to maintain any air of normalcy, and in doing so I usually do stupid non-normal things. The phenomenon is far worse when it's a cute girl. I don't know if I'm allowed to look at anyone. I don't know if I should make eye contact. I don't know, if I make eye contact, if I should smile or just look away, those actions both seeming creepy and cold respectively. I can tell that people look at me as I'm coming closer to them in an aisle, but, fearing any sort of unnecessary involvement or reaction, I almost always simply ignore them. I try to focus on my breathing and tell myself I shouldn't run away, shouldn't leave the aisle and aimlessly search another shelf until the person has left the aisle because that's what a coward would do. But on off-chances someone will say something, a girl will ask for a book recommendation for their little brother or something of the variety, and my heart rams against my ribcage and I feel my face flushing, but I'm able to at least able to keep up with responses. And, if the interaction goes well and I feel I reacted as a normal person, I sometimes will feel elated for for a number of days. Likewise, if I stutter or say something dumb, I'll think about it for the next week and get even more anxious that I'll never interact normally with humans.

I imagine you would need to find a space where literate women congegrate and have a plausibly deniable reason for being there for extended periods in order to establish the social bonds of friendship, eventually you might find a real spark of romance among the discussions of literature, gossip, and flirtation.

I have plenty of friends, am good-looking, very fit, a good deal of money, cool clothes, sense of humour blah blah blah. But I can't connect with people romantically after a few relationships in my early 20s turned sour. I find that after talking to someone for 20 mins or so I find myself thinking 'well this person is perfectly nice but vapid and inconsequential' and that's that. Instead I hold a forlorn hope that one of my exes is going to fall in love with me again when we meet in our mutual friend group or by chance somewhere.

The role or woman is not to be an intellectual. It’s a good thing if a woman doesn’t engage seriously with literature, in my mind. To me, to do so would be a sign of some sort of dysfunction in her, a lack of proper femininity that she is attempting to compensate for. Women use literature only as a means of propping up their identities, like a piece of pretty clothing to adorn their figure. They are incapable of the true intellectual rigor and honesty that it requires, incapable of the sincere search for truth and beauty, will always treat this path unconsciously as a means to gain more social or sexual validation. Only men, who are capable of treating the subject of literature with the actual respect and seriousness it deserves, should be the ones to fully engage with it and commit themselves to the literary or contemplative life. The role of woman is not to be an “intellectual partner” but the future mother of your children and a part of the foundation and proof of your manhood.

The libidio can actually subverted through conscious identification with the intelligible self. This much was already explained in the Bhagavad Gita, or "Celestial Song", when Krishna teaches Arjuna that actions can be reduced to ashes by knowledge. Once desires are washed away by the illumination of the mind, and subjectivity is thereby overcome, the female form is no longer an erotic object--the allure which once infatuated the man has vanished without a trace. With his newfound independence and lucidity, he is free to enter into the contemplative life dominated by understanding, since the blind sensuality of the lower centers of soul no longer entices him. Acutely following the eyes and expressions of others, he identifies the very subjectivity which he lately overcame, finally understanding that others project their desires onto him, only seeing him as a potential actor for the roles that remain unfilled in their stage play. Liberated from the endless cycles of time, he no longer unwittingly caters to the will of the self-devouring world serpent, feeding itself on the karmic actions of the multitudes.

I'm agreeing more with the fact that there are a ton of incredibly minor fields of study and interesting theories that were left behind with time. E.g., I was interested in the works and ideas of Robert Hartmann, but none of his works were available online. Not that I could find, anyway.

As for humanities and social sciences... I don't know, honestly. I've never tried following the curriculum for, say, sociology, or the history of China. Some, such as Philosophy, are definitely possible so long as you find someone to argue with. I could see anyone with a bit of skill using Google being able to find the correct resources.

I was really thinking about it as two categories: There are the big, broad subjects that form the foundation of the little theories, and then there are those little theories themselves. The former are probably mostly available online; the later are, in my experience, generally not.
